Personally, I am against abortion. But, I'm also against legislation abolishing it, because I feel it's a moral issue, not a legal one. It should be up to the individual case, and it should be decided by the person in question, the God or conscience they answer to, and their medical professionals. While I could never have an abortion (although that's totally academic), I don't want self proclaimed "moral police" telling me I can't.

"Morality CAN'T be legislated." That could be your beginning.

There is a good book on this issue called "Life's Dominion". One very good point that the author writes about is a counter-argument for those who argue that the fetus has rights. The author argues that a fetus does NOT have rights in the same sense that children or adults do. His argument states that we must examine what a right is.

He states that a right is a protected interest. In order to have an interest, the action taken must matter to the affected person or thing. If a fetus does not have a fully developed nervous system, it cannot have consciousness. If there is no consciousness, then whatever happens to it can't matter to it. It's like a rock having rights. The rock has no consciousness so it cannot have an interest in what happen's to it. Therefore, it cannot have any rights. I know it sounds bad to compare a fetus to a rock but it is technically a valid argument.

I think this somewhat addresses the moral dilemma of abortion.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Recite a few case studies where children were horribly abused to death...then lead into which would have been better...a short tortured life, or no life at all, something like that.

Be prepared tho--the pro-lifers are a very violent bunch (oddly enough!)--you could get your car keyed, your house graffitied, or any number of other unpleasant things!

Nobody can be FOR abortion. You can be pro-women's rights but abortion is never right. Any abortion after the first trimester is murder.
