It isn't "always" the case. As one gets older, it matters less what the age difference is. In the past it was more of a traditional thing because the man was supposed to be old enough to support the wife. Now it still carries on a bit traditionally, but it isn't a rule set in stone.
I know a lot of couples that the wife is older (1-4 years) than the husband and they all get along great.

Main reason was and still is, girls(emotionally and mentally) mature faster then boys.
Just think life expectancy was as low as 30 yeas in some places up till recently.
If both are 25 and over it should not matter that much.
That is why in most communities consent age is 18 for girls and 21 for a boy, some places have 18 for both.
Indian philosophy talks of stages for boys and girls, men are suppose to take "suniyas" at age 40. Not too many men lived that long in those good old days, when this literature was written.

To protect the girl. My husband says if girl is elder than the boy then she would always dominate & the guy will feel bad most of the times. Haha but that happens when the girl is younger too.. :-D

I've just preferred dating someone younger in my past. Yes, my wife is 12-1/2 years younger.
That being said, my best friend's wife is over a year older than he is. His sister's husband is two years younger than she is.
For the most part, though, it has been this way for ages, and has managed to stay the same even though cultures have changed. Part could be genetic, too. Men can sire children into their 70s and 80s. Women undergo menopause in their 50s.

Girl is the carrier of child and not Boys. Only when her husband is Elder, the Girl thrills in looking after the child, and if Boy is younger to Girl, then when girl becomes mother, she donot feel the thrill of maintaing the Family Life looking after 2 younger to hers.

For me, I started dating older guys after I ended things with my son's dad. It wasn't really a conscious decision, but in all honesty most guys that were my age at the time were a tad fratboyish if you know what I mean. I dated someone 2 years younger than my dad (didnt realize that until a couple months in though) The guy I ended up with was done with the bar scene and ready to settle down.

A girl matures earlier than a guy. To ensure a compatible level of maturity, it is preferrerd that guys are older/ elder than girls.

the main reason is that boys attain physical and mental maturity at a later age than guls, so v prefer elder guys to match vit our emotional status.
