Really, as an "Indian" (or engines for select few) i fell that Akon had attempted to destroy the great reputation of the Dine (Navajo). I know the place where he filmed his video and of all chances it had to be an area where a few people living in poverty live. Im asking Native Americans in particular...

I am a Native woman.

First of all I'm not sure why you would refer to yourself as an injun (engine). That is racially derogatory and now YA users may think it is okay to use this term.

Second. I have two takes on the video. One is that it is awesome that someone finally remembers Native people. We are finally being represented. That's great! And it isn't exactly misrepresentation because Native people do have the highest poverty rates in the U.S.
On the other hand the reservation is not a ghetto. So that is cultural misrepresentation. And people who do not see Natives portrayed in the media now only have one image of them, poor Indians. That does not do much to empower Native people.

So, I can see both sides. I do think he did a better job than some. Look at OutKast. They had girls dressed in green bucksin and dancing around green teepees at a public Award show. Their song He Ya is a direct hit on Native people. They refused to apologize to Natives. That was really something awful!

I'm not Native American but I actually thought the video was good. It showed a lot of people how others live. From New Jersey to New Mexico to the Navajo Nation (Arizona). All different types of "ghettos."

I just saw the video - It is tight - He is in no way disrespecting Indians - Now if there is a reason you think he should not be calling the neighborhood a ghetto - he meant nothing by it. He is just saying we are all broke and ain't got s@#$ but if you keep your faith keep moving forward - you will make it. And as far as where they filmed it - thats up to the people making the video and what deals they have made - not Akon.
