Conservative: they have to keep an open .. it seems to me they have a tendency to jump to conclusions too quickly and stick with that no matter what.. some of the best conservatives I've known... who were wonderful people... made it a point to keep their mind open to the fact that many times they could be and would be wrong.

Liberals: have to keep a since of responsibility.. I think many times they have a tendency to come across as "I'm better than you just because I am Liberal"... you think so? then earn that type of respect.. equality and helping those in need is wonderful, but not everyone deserves that help and people will abuse the system... that can be lessened by remember that since of responsibility.

What do you think are the qualities of a good conservative/liberal?

First--WELL SAID!

I could say a lot of things--but here's one thing that stands out to me as a historian/sociologist: The best people--either liberal or conservative--are those who genuinely respect one another, listen--and learn. They have different approaches--and a synthesis of the two perspectives usually produces good policy. And real conservatives and liberals recognize that.

the qualities of both should be honor and country before party. Period. Your perspectives may be different but passion for an ideology must be tempered with the realities of the world. In a time of armed conflict, all must pull together strongly for the good of the republic. Anything less subjects the nation to an increased threat of attack and other undesirable occurrences. Recognizing that we are all brothers in this bold and wonderful experiment in democracy is the most important order of business. Superfluous bickering only undermines our ultimate goals-freedom and liberty for all and death to tyranny. We have lost our way temporarily in the muddled morass of political intrigue. Extending the hand of cooperation for the good of the republic is not only the politically correct thing to do-it is the right thing to do for all the people.

No one has said we are better than you.Your first mistake is interchanging Liberals with Democrat!

Facts are facts:

Most people on welfare are corporations and their employee's, who then turn around and criticize most poor people on assistance, which happen to be children the elderly and the permanently disabled! To you really expect them to find a job! Moreover, our economy runs on supply and demand, There will always be the unemployed.

Then there are 1/2 the American workers earn under $30,000 a year and can't write off a penny. The rich make money off of their backs, then turn around and call them lazy!

The biggest welfare frauds in this country are health care providers and business, not the poor!

If I come across as holier than though that would be interesting as I have never advocated that one class of people control the reproductive rights of a female, or any other interference with the Constitution!

I am not in this for me! I don't need it! But others are clearly in it for personal gain, their own pocketbooks and sense of entitlement!

Understanding the opposing point of view is vital. If you are a liberal because you believe conservatism is evil incarnate, that demonstrates that you haven't really thought through what you believe and why.

The second component, and this is crucial in America, is to discern between Republican/Democrat and conservative/liberal. If we find ourselves simply rooting for parties over ideas, then we are relinquishing control over the process.

Liberals (being kind now) have a passion for other people and their hardships, but never put their money where their mouth is!

Conservatives (also being kind) loves to make business work, higher those that are qualified, and make money, which they try to hang onto with the liberals trying to take it away to help other people so they don't have to use their money!

I think the idea should be "what makes you the best person that you can be" and then if that makes you a good Conservative/Liberal, then so be it.

I think they both all too often forget we are all human and all American... both sides like to paint the other as heartless monsters... and for the majority in both parties...it's just simply not true...

and granted... there are some crazy kooks in both parties... but most aren't like that in either party...
