My son went to the Dr.s on Friday for wherr I was told he had a cold and that he was at the beginning of it. His Dr. told me not to be surprised if he gets worse before he gets better. He told me his ears were pink but that it could have been caused by him crying during his exam. He cries off and on like he's in pain, then settles down when I comfort him, and is fine again. He has ran a low grade fever off and on. I don't want to take him back to the Dr.s for no reason but I don't want him to suffer either. What do I do??

He doesnt pull on his ears and he is on tylenol. When I gently pull on his ears he just gives me a weird look and I can't tell if it hurts him or not.

Watch for pulling on his ears, laying on one particular ear, higher fever, not wanting to take a bottle(b/c swallowing and sucking hurt infected ears) and lethargy.

This can be a tough thing to tell with some kids. My son had 2 surgeries for tubes and adenoids removed, and had ear infections on a monthly basis beginning at around 6 months. He never one time pulled on his ears or acted as though he was in pain, or complained of pain in his ears when he was able to talk. I could tell when his ears were infected by the way he coughed, and I was right every time. If the doctor said his ears were pink, and he is still not feeling well, it may not be a bad idea to have him checked again. Always better to listen to your "mom instinct" and err on the side of caution. I hope he feels better soon!

It can be hard with babies, but you know yours best. If the baby seems to be crying more than normal and even some try to pull or cuff theirs ears. If the baby has a low-grade fever that stays for days and even increases, I would always play it safe and have him checked out again. Usually when a baby has ear aches, they may continue to have them over time, and at some levels, tubes may be placed in the ear to open them up and allow good drainage. But that procedure needs to be determined by your doctor and you. Good Luck

Ok he will be pulling at his ears, fussy more comfortable reclined then straight on his back. Most ear infections are viral and antibiotics are only for bacterial a lot of doctors will prescribe them I don't know why. They usually will get better on their own in about 10 days just give him Tylenol for pain and fever and bear with it sick kids are no fun. there are also drops you can get from the doctor to numb the pain. Try to keep the nose as clear as possible put a vaporizer in his room to help reduce congestion.

Check for fevers, irritability, fussiness during feedings (sucking puts pressure on the ear and makes babies uncomfortable) and tugging on the ears.
Some babies don't really mess with their ears at all so that may not work. I would say that if he continues having fevers and is fussy, especially at bed time, take him back to the doctor. Good luck!

You will know if your child has an ear ache. They will be extrememly fussy and clingy. They will grab at or around their ears, they also sometimes shake their heads back and forth like they are trying to say "no". You will KNOW if they have one believe me! If you were to touch the inside of the ear they would shriek in pain. The doctor can tell if its an ear infection or not by looking in the ear canal, they would have told you then if it was! Best of luck!

I would give you a weird look if you pulled on my ears too!LOL just kidding,Pulling on ears does not always mean an ear infection, actually some baby's who have ear infections do not always pull on their ears,I would take him back to the doctors and just get him to take a peek in his ears and he will be able to tell you in 2 seconds. Some baby's will eat less and also just be fussy when they have ear infections.Good luck!

Take him back. What if he is in pain? You need to get him examined...say that you suspect an ear infection.
There is never a reason good enough to not go to the doctor.
Better to be safe than sorry.

give something for fever, if he has a ear infection, he will tug on his ears a lot, you have had him checked thats good, but you should have a follow up visit in a week or so unless he's tugging on ears then get right in
