Honestly this is not a very good method of keeping bettas. You can do it, but keep in mind.
1)Bettas are carnivores. They don't eat plants.
2)You'll need to change the water every 3-4 days, and be sure to dechlorinate it.
3)Bettas breathe air from the surface of the water. Unlike most fish the can drown if the plant prevent them from reaching the surface.
4)Bettas are tropical fish. They need temps in the 75-85 range, and will die if kept below 65F for too long.

no they DO NOT like living in small cups or vases
and no they DO NOT and will not
eat the plant
number two
spend the extra money on a five gallon tank or even a 2 gallon
its so much better for the fish

First off they are surface breathers not to menchion carnivores so dont get a plat and getthe bowl at Petco guranteed to last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bettas can be gotten at walmart (though i wouldn't count on it living very long...they aren't specialists and to me it doesn't look like they take very good care of their fish...at least not at the one near me) or petsmart, or agway sometimes, if you have an agway or country max near you. AC moore and petsmart sell fish vases...there are some really cool ones i saw at petsmart that looked like giant martini glasses. and i believe the lillys can be found at walmart...but i'm not sure. just make sure you can heat the vase for the betta...theyneed water 72-82 degrees.

Please don't do it. Just get a small tank and take good care of the fish.
