Definitely. Sex is everywhere in Europe. For example, when I was in Germany, I saw a commercial for a phone company that had an attractive woman in her underwear. While she was very good looking, this did nothing to further the add or demonstrate the project. This would NEVER fly in the United States.

Interestingly, though, while Europeans are less reserved about sexuality, there seems to be far fewer incidents of violence in the European media...

Not really. I've been to the UK and there's no real difference. Media there and here is pretty much identical. Though I think the sexual stereotype is more about southern Europe/France... Northern Europe is definitely not more sexually "open."

There's definitely a trend towards more nudity in movies and such from southern Europe, but that doesn't necessarily mean sexuality. In fact, it more likely simply means that they sexualise the naked body less than Americans do, and therefore have fewer reservations about showing it. Just like how in the 20s or so knees were sexualised and a girl showing her knees was seen as provocative. We show our knees all the time now, but it's not because we've become hyper-sexual but because the sexual connotation of that body part has disappeared...

Absolutely... while traveling in a few different countries I have noticed that Americans are far more private as well.

There is complete nudity in commercials in other countries and the USA would faint if that happened here. Why this is look down upon is beyond me.

Reserved, private and uptight about, are all things I feel the USA is, regarding sex and nudity.
