I'm considering going to university but I have looked at the entry requirements and it states that I need 5 GCSE passes at grade C including maths and english, which I dont have. I have done a GNVQ to get onto A-Level which i was told it is the equivalent to 5 GCSE passes at grade C but this doesn't include maths or english. Hopefully I will get the right UCAS points but concerned about the GCSE requirements. Is there a way around this? I am doing 3 A2 level courses with the GNVQ pass. Should the University be asking for the GCSE passes if the college accepts the GNVQ as 5 GCSE passes?

Sorry about the length of this question......

Thanks.

to be honest, i'm not convinced that the 5 GCSEs will be a massive problem, given that you have the post-GCSE qualifications which are of greater importance to the universities. That said, I think your lack of English and Maths may be a problem especially as these are often pre-requisites to study a-levels. as a further point to this, quite often jobs request passes in maths and english GCSE, so its probably worth taking them anyway as it will help you in the future anyway (and if you're used to A-level material, taking GCSEs again will be a piece of cake!!)
Like the others said, defo ask the unis you are interested in applying to and see what they say....
good luck whatever happens!!

At my uni you wouldn't be accepted onto the Business course without a GCSE in Maths, because of the accounting modules, though if there was any maths content in your GNVQ you might be able to talk your way around it.

The best thing to do is contact the admissions office of the uni and talk to the person responsible for that course.

Universities tend to state 5 good GCSEs and so many A-levels as the default value, but that doesn't mean they don't accept anything else.

If you're worried, speak to the admissions office at one the universities you're interested in and explain the situation to them. Providing you get the right A-levels you shouldn't have any problem.

It's really a case of making sure that you're happy with the Maths and English basics so that this won't be a barrier to doing well once you get to University.

If you're really worried, speak to your school about doing a GCSE as a top up. I did an italian GCSE during my first year of A-level. It was just for fun and we did it in one year in stead of two - it was great.

Different uni's ask for different things. And at the end of the day if they want you as a student then they will let the point's slide and accept you.
I was accepted more on the grounds I had done a fair amount of work experience in my chosen field. (Which also counts in your application.)
If possible try to re-take your GCSE maths. (I did - and I did the modular version as I'm a bit rubbish at sitting one big exam!) As it will prove useful later, sometimes sixth forms do let you do that.
But as you haven't said what subject you want to study at uni I'm afraid I can't advise much. Good luck at uni!!

Have you tried getting in touch with the uni in question??? Try asking the admissions admin staff they are usually very helpful with any questions you may have. Don't give up getting the info you need, uni is great lot of hard work but worth it.

Hope this helps

Most uni's don't vare about GCSE grades. Most don't really care what grades you get in ur A Levels. But getting good grades in ur alevels will help you getting good marks in your essays
