It is a cynical ploy to act that they care what we, the anonymous people, think about. They only really care about the people who vote in the primaries right now. They just ask questions on here to look like "hey! I am cool... look at me, I talk to you poor schmucks! Your welcome for thinking you are reaching me... Oh wait, I mean thank you for touching me with your honest, thought provoking suggestions!!!!"
They don't even see the answers (they don't even ask the questions).. their aides do. The aides pick out a handful of answers and then their supervisors hand-select a few and hand them over to the candidates speech writer. The speech writer put the answer(s) in a speech and then Hillary or John (or whoever it will be this week) will say "Mary of Indiana told me that her 2 year old son started a bake sell for the troops... etc."
I would hate them all if it wasn't so comical.

I think that what it shows is that they realize where most of the people are hanging out these days. I pretty much quit watching TV and reading newspapers long ago. I actually get most of my news and info off of the Internet, and I think that most politicians are beginning to realize that there are a lot of people now who do that.
Does that mean that they will actually listen to what we are saying and do something about it? Probably not. The only reason they are here is because that's where the people are now mostly. Same old game, just a different venue.

On the one hand, considering the collective intelligence found on this forum, I do think it is ridiculous. But on the other hand, I'm all for cutting campaign budgets...I think they are way out of control and go a long way to determine who will be candidates. Money is the dictator there...not the qualifications of an individual! So if the candidates could use the internet effectively, it would serve the public very well. I would, however, like to see it better organized, and there should be a website designed exclusively for that purpose. And, perhaps, in order to ensure quality responses and participation, there should be a qualifying questionnaire for participation. But then, I guess that would come off elitist...and would be open for everyone. So, never mind on that last point...just me living in a dream world!

In my opinion, they are trying to find out how the people want to be represented and, basically, what's on their mind. It is giving you some kind of voice, but I have to wonder if they really have time to read 16,000 responses, especially since a pretty big percentage of these answers could be termed offensive.

I suppose in theory the best ideas might get moderated up and at least give them an idea of what the common man wants...but yes, it's mostly a form of advertising.

I could be convinced that McCain's intentions are genuine. But Hillary . . . if there is anybody that honestly believes that she cares about what we, the great unwashed "peasants" think . . . well, I've got some land I'd like to sell you.
