COMPUTERS do not damage your eyes. Prolonged use without breaks may lead eye strain. If you wear contacts, and if you don't blink often enough the lenses may dry out and become uncomfortable. If you stare at the computer, your yes may get dry if you don't blink enough. If there is a glare off the screen, get a filter for the screen.
If you get the problem mentioned by you quite often try to give break from computer work and wash your eyes with cold pure water and relax for some time. I will be alright.
If you feel you have irritation due to some infection you can consult your ophthalmologist.-

Buy a new monitor, take regular breaks, move your eye balls about and don't just stare at one point, visit your opticions every 6 months, eat carrots, vitamins, 5 fruit and vegetable a day, drink plenty of water, remember to go out for a walk in the nature and make sure your eyes see lots of different things in a day......you should be fine then.

Make an appointment to see an eye Dr. as soon as possible.
In the mean time get some rewetting drops to comfort your eyes until you can see the eye dr. That may help some.

close your eyes and rest them for 3 minutes. you`ll be surprised how much it helps. you really need to take a break.
you can also get an "anti-glare screen" for your monitor?
you can also turn down the brightness on your monitor, it stops you from squinting your eyes?
alternatively, drink some redbull. it will most definitely help you along, perk you up a bit.
best of luck.

Look away from the computer and focus on something in the distance periodically. You may want to see an optometrist to get your eyes checked in case the pain is from straining to focus.

I was just reading up on the Bate's Test. It says you must cup your hands over your closed eyes. Just imagine something nice in your head. Do this for about five minutes until you feel your eye is startting to feel better.

my younger sister's do that because she doesn't blink enough, or you could just have really dry eyes..and for that i have sympathy.
but i can read a big fat harry potter book for 9 hours before they will actually start to hurt, just blink and try taking breaks or maybe even over the counter eye drops.
