People are ignorant. The people who dog on the D most likely have never been there. How many times does it have to be said...all big cities have crime! I am a transplant from Indiana and love it here. Talk about culture shock! But it is all what you make of it. Stereotypes are hard to break. The people who live in Detroit seem to be proud of the city and are really trying to revitalize it. Long live the D!!!!

Let's be honest here, Detroit really gets a bad rap because of the black population %, which the highest in the country among major cities - which is complete BS. Detroit is 85-90% black, and to be honest most whites either won't go there, or have something bad to say because of this. Detroit is the most segragated area in the country, Livonia is 99% white as well, racial tensions are definietly the motive in the Detroit area. They've done a lot of work in the Downtown area, and it looks decent, certain neighborhoods could use a makeover, but what big city doesn't need one, i.e. - Chicago, New York(which is absolutely the filthiest place in the US), Houston, Philly. Detroit gets a bad rap, but it's really not that bad.

I've never been to Detroit so I can't knock it. I know that Detroit has a reputation for crime. Whether that is true or not, I think it is a conventional wisdom. Also, I recently read an article about the dismal real estate situation there. It say that property values are dropping through the floor due to foreclosures and there is a very high unemployment rate. Buy hey, I'm sure there's great things about Detroit. It's the hometown of Motown and Robocop - what more can you want?

one element it is omit understood approximately Detroit is there's a distinctive separation between the city of Detroit and the encircling suburbs. the city of Detroit itself is undesirable, I stay right here and that's. The financial gadget precise now's undesirable, and persons right here extra useful get used to the thought the motor vehicle industry isn't coming back. Detroit has an particularly extreme poverty point, a frightening violent crime value, and undesirable politicians dropping the constrained money they do have. on the different hand the suburbs or the metro area as we call it right here is definitely very outstanding. reliable colleges, little or no crime, and a changing distinctive interest venture. All jobs are down interior the area however the communities equipped around new technologies than the over inflated overestimated motor vehicle production jobs. so some distance as Flint is going comprehend that became at one time the headquarters of Oldsmobile, and because Oldsmobile now not exists Flint has died.

Because most of the city neighborhoods are in despair. Burned down houses, abandoned houses & cars. The empty lots are filled with trash that has been dumped. Lack of trash pickup. When is the last time you saw a street sweeper? There is a lot of good happening Downtown but I think they should concentrate more on their neighborhoods. There is so much beauty in the neighborhoods but it is surrounded by trash.

Maybe because it's dirty and has a high crime rate and that all you hear about is trash. The only thing good I've associated with Detroit is the movie Detroit Rock City. I would never go there, even for $$.
