My friend accidentally dropped my cell phone in a strawberry smoothie.

It smells like strawberries, and some of the buttons stick, but it works

however, the sticky buttons and smell are bugging me, is there any way i can clean it w/o killing my phone?

If it were only a surface matter - I would suggest Q-Tips and Rubbing Alcohol. But since it is clearly inside the key pads - and could possibly threaten your circuit board, your smartest bet would be to go to your provider's office where they have a service tech.

Never open the phone yourself. Besides the possibility of causing damage to the internal workings - you may void warranties.

Let a trained tech help you in opening and cleaning your cell phone.

Good luck, hon. ...And look into getting a good phone cover...
Peace.

LOL... I dropped mine in a bowl of cereal and after 3 days (when I got the replacement) it worked. The only thing you can really do if it's a payment plan phone (i.e. a verizon or cingular that sends you a bill) is take it to a place that sells the phones such as Radio Shack or the verizon store and they can take it apart and clean it but you don't have a phone for a few days while they clean it. As far as the smell try cleaning the phone on the outside with a SMALL amount of rubbing alcohol or windex on a SOFT paper towel. The buttons will be sticky unless the phone is taken apart and the buttons and face of the phone are cleaned. If it's a pre-pay try taking just the outside of the phone apart, cleaning the buttons and the face but make sure the guts (inside of the phone) don't touch any water and that it isn't touched with dirty hands. Good Luck and be glad ya didn't have to pay to replace it! LOL

ohmygosh! DO NOT EXPOSE IT TO ANY MORE MOISTURE! If it is working it is by pure luck and may only work for a short amount of time. (start budgeting for a new phone) In the meantime, absolute minimum moisture to clean the outside and you may have to get access to really small screwdeivers to pull the phone apart for an inside cleaning. the screws are usually under very tiny rubber tabs that are flush to the surface of the phone. Depending on the provider you may find a kiosk in a mall that has the tool to change faceplates that they sell. That will give access to the insides. Hope this helps!

Try rubbing alcohol on the end of Q-Tips.
It lets you get into all the little cracks and crevices around the keypad. I've done this with my own phone and other electronics with good success.
The only issue is if the 'smoothie' got inside the phone. If so, then it will be necessary to take the face plate off and clean the circuit board.
This can also be done with q-tips and rubbing alcohol.

I would take the battery and memory chip out and then try to clean it with soap and water. Make sure you dry it out completely before trying to use it again. Maybe let it sit outside as it drys, it might help clear the smell.

i would try a sanitary wipe .....i donno how well that would work though.... but if it survived in a smoothie then im sure it'll be ok with a mildly damp cloth...... good luck...
you can always make her pay for it!
