Why is it that American people donate money to other countries when our country needs it too?

People put countries like Africa first and don't donate to programs like the soup kitchen. Why do these people put their own country last?

By the way, I'm not saying these people shouldn't , I just want to see what you guys think.

Americans are a giving people. We are loving, caring, selfless, and willing to assist in what ever world disaster comes about.

Americans do not contribute to their local charities because they have the entitlement mentality. The government should provide for all these people in the United States. Welfare takes care of them they don't need my help where this other country where the country cant help their own people we need to send them money.

Another thought is that they are African-American/Mexican American/ German-American/ Russian-American they are all something else before they are Americans, so they help they other nation first. I Am an American Jew I help America First then I help the Jews then I help Israel, if I have anything left I will help other nations. It is a matter of priority

Because the most "in-need" Americans still have FAR MORE than the needy in many other countries!

In the US, poverty is officially defined as beginning when you earn a penny less than three times the cost of a nutritional sound diet.

People in "poverty" in the US still get to eat (unless they spend their wages on cigarettes & TV), those in "poverty" in the Third World are literally starving to death.

If you live in the US and you are poor, there are INFINITE opportunities for you to escape that situation...

I have no clue. I think it's great to help people in other countries who truly don't have anything, but I think it sucks that not enough is done for people here.

When you compare the intensity of the need ... there is just no comparison.
They should, however, contirbute to local needs, over and above what they do for other countries.
