She also had excess protein in her urine. She's getting blood work and a sonogram done right now. Should I be concerned?

She may be going toxic. (as in toxemia) She may very possibly be on bedrest for the rest of her pregnancy. And the rest of her pregnancy may not be that long. I had hypertension with my middle child, but no other symptoms. I had to be on a "modified" bedrest where I had to lay down for about 15 minutes of every hour. My labor was induced at 38 weeks when my blood pressure went up to 140/90.

I am not saying you shouldn't be concerned, but I had hypertension also. I did 2 24-hour observation stays in the hospital. In one stay, they found elevated levels of protein in my urine, and then in the second (after a few days of strict bed rest) the levels were back to normal. They gave me a two steroid shots to help mature the baby's lungs just in case I had to be delivered early. I was on bed rest for a month and then they induced me two weeks early. The baby was healthy and my blood pressure improved over the next 6 weeks. It just all depends on how your wife's body is responding to the higher blood pressure levels. They might put her on bed rest like they did me, or they may decide it is best to deliver early. But, being a month early, she and the baby should be fine. Good luck and God Bless.

Don't panic, but there is cause for concern. It's really common though. As long as she does what the doctor's tell her, she will be fine. They might even induce labor a little early if her BP stays high. Mine was high so the induced and gave me a med called mag sulfate. It helps to lower the blood pressure. The best thing you can do for her is be supportive and keep her stress level down. Just you being by her side and giving her support will help keep her more relaxed. Good luck! I hope all goes well!

The same thing happened to me and I had what is called HELLP syndrome and toxemia what it sounds like that is what your wife has (toxemia). I had to have th baby a month early because my liver was failing and had an emergency C-section. My baby is a month early so if she has to have the baby I think the baby will do fine. Good luck and God bless. Be concerned but be there for her and be calm.

I was just wondering, if she is having a sonogram done now why are you not with her? Go be with her and love her and be sweet to her do not allow her to be more stressed out about this.

Be concerned but supportive. I went through this w/ my 1st and I was on bedrest and medication to try to keep blood pressure in a safe range. They delivered me at 38wks after I went into labor on my own so it's not all grim,ok. If her bp gets too high she could have seizures, a stroke, or even die. The protien can attack her kidneys and liver and cause damage. If her bp gets dangerous most time they will deliver the baby early and hope for the best. Either way, she needs you to be supportive and just tell her everything will be ok(even if you don't believe it) good luck!!

sounds like she may have preelampsia. the dangers of preelampsia are elevated bloodpressure during labor and delivery, this puts mom and baby at risk. alot of times doctors willl want to induce women with preelampsia as soon as possible, usually after they get past 32 weeks. it is possible but not likely (as long as she recieves treatment) that preelampsia can develop into elampsia. this can cause extremly high blood pressure, kidney failure, cause renal glands to shut down, elampic seizer, and even death to either mother or baby. preelampsia and elampsia are the 3rd leading causes for deaths in mother and baby. fortunatly outside of third world countries the death rate is exceeding lower, due to advanced medical care. no one knows for sure the exact cause of preelampsia. the cardinal signs of preelampsia are elavated blood pressure and protien in the urine.

Yes it is very dangerous!!! Try not to let her get upset about anything. Make sure she gets to all his appointments. She needs to lay off the salt and sodas and pay attention to the amount of sodium in the foods that she prepares. Help her all you can. God Bless you and good luck!
Good Luck, and God Bless You!!!
