I think that there have ALWAYS been sickos in society willing to have sex with a dead deer, live sheep or children. Most of the human race had no idea because we didn't have the wonderful communications system that we have now. Nobody from CNN was running around putting it on TV because, for most of history, there was no TV. Nobody was putting it on the Net for all of us to see because there was no Net.
The human race is NOT doomed because 99.99% of us are still sane enough to say "That's sick!"

I think people have been doing weird stuff like that for thousands of years. It is just easier to see today through the media.
