The William Blake suggestion is a good one because his collections *Songs of Innocence* and *Songs of Experience* are meant to be read and considered together. For instance, *Songs of Innocence* contains a poem called "The Lamb" which has a direct counterpart in *Songs of Experience*: "The Tyger." So, assuming you can use two poems by the same author, you could compare and contrast two of Blake's paired poems.

Why not compare a serious poem and a funny one? How about something by Emily Dickenson and something by Shel Silverstein. That out to be easy to compare and contrast. Good luck. Pax - C.

Try looking up poems by Billy Collins. He's a really cool, thought-provoking modern poet who was the U.S. Poet Laureaute a few years ago. His poems are really straightforward and usually funny.

I love the Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. You can read it here:
http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~trent/ochs/lyrics/highwayman-orig.html
You could compare it with Paul Revere's Ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow because they are both about people riding horses but for very different purposes...something like that.
You can read Paul Revere's Ride here:
