They think in history, Napoleon's last name was Dynomite.
When dicussing "Fergie, The Dutchess of York" they think you're talking about the name of a record album.
They have no earthly idea what the Holocoust was or who fought who in WWII.
They think Abortion is the same thing as Miscarriage
They think sex at 12 years old is completely normal and ok
They think that something is only wrong if you get caught
They think money is the most important thing in the world
...and yet they still manage to pull of A's and B's and end up getting a boat load of scholarship money that someone who really needs it doesn't get.

Oh amen you.....yeah, the scholarship thing is my pet peeve, it has nothing to do with merit and is all about need.......but not need if you don't fit the diversity goals or standards.....ie. ...if you are white you are screwed.......not fair....
But, before we totally beat up these kids look in the mirror mr. and mrs. usa......we raised em....we all need to be the big bread winner and the $ at some point became more important than raising our kids...shame on us.

I think that it is typical for the older generation to think that the next one is lazier and not as good. I remember seeing an article about kids in the 30's not being as respectful or as studious as they could be. In the 50's, there were senior citizens that didn't understand rock and roll. In the 20's, you had flappers.

I think the percentage of intelligent people in the world has stayed pretty much the same. I really don't think it has gone up or done that much. It does seem that way, but I think there are a couple of reasons for that:

1) There are more people now than there used to be due to population increases. You now have more stupid people on this planet than you have ever had. You also have more genuises than ever before. What you have to look at is the percentage, not the raw numbers.

2) If someone does something stupid now people will hear about it. This wasn't always the case. TV and the Internet have made the world a smaller place. In the 50's, if someone did something really dumb, only people in the local area were likely to hear about it. Nowadays, people videotape stuff and they put it on the Internet so everyone can see. This gives the appearance that the intelligence of the current youth has gone down.

Overall, I believe that it has always been bad. In the early 60's, they did a survey on the street where they asked several adults if they knew what a heterosexual was. A shockingly large number of people did not know the definition.

The bottom line is there has always been people that are uneducated. You need to look at the percentage, not the numbers.

You are talking about an exceptionally small percentage of my generation!

Just because some of us may seem, or be, completely ignorant doesnt mean all of us are! I am offended that people would think like this! I know who Napoleon was, who the dutchess of york was, i know very well what the holocoust was and who we fought in wwll...abortion is definitely NOT the same as a miscarriage, sex at 12 is ridiculous, most of us have more morals than to think that something is ONLY wrong if you get caught, and i know money is by far NOT the most important thing in the world...maybe you should get your facts straight before you decide to put down a large group of individuals who you know will be reading this question.

Take the time to find out so stupidity and ignorance will not run amok within YOUR generation!

Well, I'm 13 so I would think my opinion would count. I know Napoleon's last name wasn't Dynomite. Considering we haven't really learned anything about the Holocoust yet, I think I have a good understanding of it. I'm not a retard so I know who fought in WWII. I know that Abortion is when the parents don't want the baby and kill it. A miscarriage is when something bad happened while a woman was pregnant and she lost the baby. I'm still a virgin and plan to stay that way until I'm 17, not to mention that the only 12 year olds having sex are sluts and it is not normal or okay. My father is a part of the Pepperell Police in Massachusetts and has raised me better than the rest of the kids who live in places like Lowell or New York and think they are gangster. I hate spending money and I hate Abercrombie and Fitch and all of the other stores like it. I pull of A's and B's because I work hard and deserve them. I'm only 13 and I have no idea if I'm going to get a scholarship but I do know that I'm going to have to take out alot of loans. And yes, I can type better than the average idiot.

It is nothing new. It is an age old question. Every generation asks it. You can blame the parents, the school system, whatever you want, but it isn't a new problem by any means. Read Romeo and Juliet? What were those kids doing staying out all night? Don't their parents know where they are? Look in all works of literature and you will find the same. Kids who are arrogant and think they know everything, and know hardly anything in reality. Kids who can't be controlled or taught, rebellious, no respect for authority. Every generation asks this question.

The problem is when they become adults and still act arrogant and like they know it all. They never grow out of it.

And it's not just kids who don't know these things. Ask any generation.

Because they have been raised by a generation of adults who put money and their career before anything else they love their job more than their children. We are also sending our children to public schools that are nothing more than abusive,sadistic,immoral,baby-sitters, who could care less about them.Adults especially in authority never admit responsibility for their actions , they always blame it on someone or something else. So if you really want to know why today's teens are the way they are TAKE A GOOD LONG HARD LOOK in THE MIRROR.Children become what they live!!!!!!!!!!

A stupid populace is easier to control. There is a REASON that populations aren't encouraged to achieve. Watch how quickly the media can stir the pot and have everyone in an uproar about this, that or the other. Those who control the media---particularly television---control your country (whichever one it may be.)

kids today are dumber because of the rap music garbage that tells them that they are supposed to be gangsters and that having sex with as many people as you can is ok. They think that cussing and bad grades are cool. They think making fun of people is cool. They think that getting high or drunk is the solution. But it all comes back to the music... telling them these things.
