I had never even heard of emo until a couple years ago. It is short for emotional & has become a sub-branch from the punk sub-culture. It's become a very broad over-used term, thus leading to confusion.
When I think of emo, I usually think of a young thin guy wearing a form-fitting novelty tee over a long-sleeved thermal, jeans with fun belts, colorful Converse sneakers, eyeliner & whispy hair listening to My Chemical Romance on his black I-Pod Nano with a journal of poetry about how rough life can be.
I don't know.
There are several web sites out there that explain what it is, though.
