Illegal means that you would go to jail or face charges in court. Not going to work is definitely not illegal. Unless you have been ordered to have a job by the judge.
Not showing up and not calling in before your shift starts is considered quitting by some companies. In others it may just be grounds for a write up, or nothing at all.
Just go back to work and feel lucky you have a job. Many people don't.

It is not illegal because there is no law that says you MUST go to work.
However if you accept a job your employer has every reason to believe you will come to work, so they don't hire someone else. You don't go to work or call in sick, it is considered NO CALL, NO SHOW. In my company three days of no call, no show gets classified as job abandonment--worse than quitting, because you didn't give your employer notice to find someone else. All this means that the employer will--understandably and appropriately--give you a bad reference, and other employers will be less likely to hire you in the future because you aren't dependable.
Your reputation is everything -- do the right thing, give your employer two weeks notice that you are leaving your job, then work during those two weeks so they can find a replacement for when you leave!

It's not illegal to not go to work. If you're under contract with someone, you're liable to be sued for breaking the contract, however, it's a civil matter, not criminal. As far as considering it quitting, discretion is up to your employer. It is grounds to be fired, so they may fire you, especially with a no call no show, that doesn't speak highly of anyone in any position. But if you want to quit, quit! But you have to tell someone. It's not like the girl that you never call back - it's your job man. Save a reference, don't burn the bridge. Go to work.

Usually this wouldn't be considered illegal. However every place I have ever worked it would be considered "job abandonment" when you don't show up or make an effort to call. The penalties vary, but it doesn't usually take too many days to get fired for this. And then you wouldn't be eligible for unemployment.

I doubt it's illegal. Most employers will have a policy on this topic. Look at your employee hand book or go to your human resources office for additional info.
For example my company considers it job abandonment after 3 days of not showing up to work without prior notification.

It's certainly not illegal. It is considered quitting if you don't call in and let them know you're not showing up.

It's not illegal, unless you're in the military of course. And yes, it's considered quitting.

A job can fire you for almost anything depending on what state you are in.
No, a "no-show" is not illegal.
But you can be fired for it. Or just a reprimand.
What is so bad that you want to quit?

It's probably not illegal, but it can lead to firing. It varies from company to company, but one example is that the failure to show up without any contact or explanation via a phone call for three consecutive work-days can be cause for dismissal.

It's not that it's illegal, it is in supremely bad taste, and shows so poorly on you, that you might be in danger of losing your job, if you don't already have a foothold there. Unless, ofcourse, you have a really good reason :). But yeah, everywhere I hv been, they do have a policy to inform in advance.
