james, of course i am generalizing. if i wasn't, this would be no fun.
Nevaeh, if that is what you think feminism is about, you need to read some theory
Jim, internalized sexism, theres your answer.
laelanure, do you intend to vote or go to college? then you have a use for it
Steve, ever considered the larger structural reasons why this is so? maybe that is what we feminists are calling discrimination, if you'd pay attention
phil, doesn't answer my question, but thanks for playing! and i'm sorry your poor privileged self feels victimized by those uppity women wanting to actually be equal. shame on them!

steve again, could a man who is married take the same kind of time off that women are expected to if they have a child? why is it that a woman is automatically expected to eventually run off and have kids?
if you check the numbers, most women who are unmarried and childless still make less than their male peers, even when they have been in the company as long or longer and do just as much work.

phil- do you walk down the street in a constant state of fear that you will be raped? when you are robbed, are you told that its your fault for carrying a wallet in the first place? Do you have your medical choices legally regulated and constantly questioned? do you have pharmacists refusing to give you antibiotics because they believe that only godless sinners kill bacteria? the list goes on.

Alex- you are a perfect example of the patriarchy. congrats
Saxondog- Freud was a quack. all of his theories are based on white male Europeans and only apply to white male Europeans. considering men routinely sexually abuse women to gain power over them, i wonder who is really envious.

The men that insist there is no need are those that loathe to give up their privileged position in society. By slandering feminist and making them to appear as man haters, bra less, dykes, ball-breakers anti feminine and the rest of the myths they hope to sway other young women away from joining the cause.
Little do these women know that if it were not for feminism they would still be considered property of first their father's then their husbands. They would certainly be told they did not posses the intelligence nor the logic to be able to use a computer.
The struggle continues and those of us who realize that the oppression is internalized in other women must keep up the battle.
Thank Goddess for men who believe in the feminist movement such as my husband who supports my decisions, and stands beside me. He also believes that we are all equal in worth.

I am a nineteen year old young woman. I appreciate the strong women that fought for equality, during the Women's Rights Movement/ Liberation. I appreciate the equal opportunities that I face today, because I believe opportunity is the single most important thing a human deserves. I am not naive to think that there aren't any inequalities between men and women in American society today. However, when a supressed minority gains power, or rights, it takes time to change. This is not an excuse, but it is an understanding. I appreciate what feminism was, but i HATE what it has become in not all, but many modern contexts. I believe in equality. I believe in opportunity. I believe in diversity. By singling out women's rights, I feel as though it is segregating women. I feel that it is this kind of extremist approach that serves as a turn off to those who are already aprehensive to adopt such a concept. I feel the same about racial, cultural, and religious minorities. In areas where women are being unfairly treated, by all means, I think the issue should be addressed. However, I don't think it should be addressed in a "women vs. men" manner. I think it should be adressing a mistreating, an inequality, or illegal behavior.

Feminism originaly started to help women get equal rights. It has in the last 30 yrs or so become a way of controling and putting fear into men. Men now are afraid of saying anything about a woman without Sexual harrasment. A woman meanwhile can say harsh statments about men and get away with it. Women now days have more political power then men if you realy think about it how many days a week do you hear about NOW wanting some reform.

So long as feminism exists, women will remain divided and of less value. Women are their own worst enemies and perpetuate competition among themselves and create the illusion of feminism, however it is the men who need that feminism to exist supply and demand:
The measure of a woman by comparison to the measure of a man is very different.
A man while not successful suffers little interaction with society when the economy can't deliver.
Womn unsuccessful suffer greater consequences where the responsibility to nuture family no matter what the economy, responsibility will default entirely upon women when the economy can't deliver.
This is true whether a woman has children or not because the function of women is still seen as the head of children's dependency to this day.

Most people who believe this (myself included), refer to the Western countries (United States in my case), not the world as a whole. This view is usually espoused because men look around and see that women have many rights, including unspoken ones. At the same time they see laws and regulations posed in part by feminism as oppressive to males as a whole, which is a frustrating realization. The general argument is "Women today have equal rights and more."
This is probably off by a bit; my personal stance is that too much has been pushed one way and not enough has been pushed another way, or that "Women have too many rights that they don't need and are missing some that they do." To me, this appears to be the case with most legislation and reform.
I would rather we had a "humanist" movement that tried to even out the playing field for both women AND men, as men are truly disadvantaged in some cases (like college and courtrooms).
As noted above, some women also believe feminism has had its time and no longer serves a useful purpose.
EDIT: "There are still racial and sexist tensions throughout(sic) the US and feminists are the ones that face these issues and attempt to secure rights."
True, but such a problem can't be fixed with laws. It's a problem of social mentality. As chivalry prevails, so too shall other beliefs. Note also that minorities can also be racists, just as women can also be sexists.
By the way, Dierdre, the misandry is BLEEDING through now, what with the notion of women being "property" and the like. Your responses used to have class; they have now fallen beneath the level of contempt.

Some of us are more concerned with motherhood and the state of our nations children.
Seems that trait and talent has a lot more to do with the future of the world then constanly looking for some new pay gap differential gap.
Plus a lot of us men are tired of watching the institution of marriage go from being selfless partners to selfish women preoccupied with their independance. That word doesn't belong in a Marrige for a Man or Woman. Marriage is all about giving it up for your partner -- a feminist can not even fatom such a situation.
Other then that -- As long as Ms. Feminist stays out of the institution of marriage and having kids, I do hope she gets same pay and a big house to live in. But reality is most poeple don't want to live ALONE in a BIG house with NO family or children.

For those that answered, "there is not".... you have alot of research to do...
There still is a need for feminism. Many people look at the small accomplishments in the world and quickly come to the notion that there is no need for feminism because "Hilary could be elected President". Let me tell you that simply because a women (or a black) is elected president of the US doesn't mean that problems have been solved. There is still racial and sexist tensions throghout the US and feminists are the ones that face these issues and attempt to secure rights. It astonishes me that people are against feminism, yet without it women wouldn't have been able to vote, or get a career.
The reason that many men have issues with feminism is because of the negative connotation that is associated with the word. If you mention "feminist" to someone, they most likely think of someone who is extremely outspoken, lesbian and has radical ideas. During the suffrage movement, many people against women's rights used propaganda to convince others that feminists are nothing more than lesbians that complain. Most women will agree that they believe that women need to have equal rights, but they would never consider themselves a "feminist"- ironic because the definition of feminist is just that; someone who believes in equal rights.
I consider myself a feminist even though I am a man. I believe women should have equal rights and I believe that in many cases there is a lot of work to be done.
"Feminism is the radical notion that women are people too"
Couldn't say it better myself!

Feminists have NO curiosity in females's rights. Feminism is a hate institution like some other hate institution. Feminism survives by means of portraying ALL females as sufferers and ALL guys as oppressors. They make the most females and females's motives to discriminate in opposition to guys. They do not care approximately females in any respect! Take prostitution for instance - To feminists, ALL prostitutes are sufferers and ALL guys are exploiters of those females. Which is seen nonsense! Prostitutes understand precisely what they are doing and make the mindful option to be a prostitute. Some are pupils, a few paintings in complete time jobs and do it at the facet and so on... In Iceland, the feminist PM simply banned stripping!!! Her declare is that ALL strippers are sufferers. But what are those females going to do for cash now? These females made a dwelling to furnish for his or her households from dancing. And that is the predicament with feminists - they painting those females as simply commodities to be owned. But prostitutes or strippers are delivering a provider. It's like announcing u possess a dentist considering the fact that u pay him to scrub ur tooth! It's ridiculous. By feminists declaring that every one females are sufferers, they forget about all of the tips that contradict that and all of the females making well on their lives. If feminists TRULY cared approximately females, they might LISTEN to females alternatively than ignoring them and simply generalizing approximately them and guys. Which is discrimination in opposition to hassle sexes of the worst form.

For a long time men painted women as weak and this greatly hindered them. Feminists got rid of this idea as they should have. But at the same time they painted future innocent generations of men as predators, a new label with the same effect.
This plus the fact that there really aren't anymore ways women are oppressed besides the pay gap, which is really questionable. Any discrimination against women makes news and is quickly addressed, discrimination against men is acceptable on the other hand.
A lot of you need to get it out of your head that today's men want women to fail. This new generation of men, 20's and younger, do not want women to fail. As a matter of fact many of these men have been hit with enough feminism to believe women are superior.

Well, seeing as how a woman has answered your question with the statement that she is against feminism, I guess your question has been proven invalid, just as has feminism. So far, Alexandra hasn't answered but judging from her previous answers, I have no doubt she's against feminism.
That be two.
I already know you'll not back away from your biased point of view, feminists can not accept defeat, even when proven wrong but for your information, it is sexism promoted by feminists and feminism, as in this question that causes sane and thinking people to detest the sexist program that is feminism.
When speaking of the US, the first objective is to find an area where women are being discriminated against differently than men. Can't be done. (And don't trot out that canard about women's pay being less, it just ain't so).
There are several areas where men are discriminated against unlike women (primarily "family law", selective service and reproduction rights), yet feminists don't even breathe a word about trying to make these specific things equal because to do so would require feminism to give up some of it's special rights; superiority, to be exact.
The answer to your question is many men and many women are against feminism.
EDIT - For all those who continue to claim there is need for feminism, what is it?
Exactly how many more sexist laws could feminism need?
The only thing that is denied women is selective service (which is something they don't seem to be fighting to obtain).
They are paid the same (despite the lies told to the contrary).
They are superior in court in both family and civil law.
Every right men have women have plus a few so what is the need for feminism?

Mr 'SMARM' Alex: you are clueless and full of nonsense...and a shining example of a typical chauvinist.
You really really need to understand something - feminists don't want a DADDY FIGURE, we want an EQUAL... cuz we big girls now...otay? And your narcissism is flaring up when you spout pretentious nonsense like YOU are all KNOWING about the intimates of a womans heart....you just KNOW what she needs. Do you understand how absurd that sounds? And WHERE did all that dime-store psychology come from? Oh ya, that's right, the dime store.
After each redundant and mind-numbing post I read I'm left with yet another dejavu headache. It's never ending this chavinism and narcissism...never ending. WakeupWakeupWakeup!
