Far too many people... Psychologists are part of the problem instead of being part of the solution. They want to diagnose everyone with depression, or ADD and put them on drugs. Psychologists don't want people to be cured... Think about it, if they cure someone of their problems, then the psychologist won't get any more money from that person. They are just another example of how the drug companies run our medical industry.

Psychologist and Psychiatrists are different. Latter is a specialty within the Medical Doctor's field where as former is a trained counselor. Psychologists do NOT prescribe medicine. (not allowed by training and law)

A term "Shrink" usually refers to the psychiatrists.

Be careful with the use of term "crazy." Having one type of disorder or another is actually very common. If you have a dis-order, you see a specialist to treat you, medical, psychological, or otherwise. In moderate case of all disorders, persons are completely capable of taking care of his/her own affairs - that puts them in "normal" category. When someone is completely withdrawn from all activities, then you might consider the person, "crazy."

Seeing a psychologist is nothing more than seeing a very well trained counselor. It can help you great deal. I'd suggest it if you are considering it for yourself. As with any profession, there are variety of quality in this field. The key is to find not only a good one, but to find one that you feel comfortable and compatible with your personality.

By the way, anyone who is aware enough to realize he/she is having a problem and decides to see a specialist to resolve the problem is a sane person with an ability to reason. That person is not crazy at all. Is he/she normal? What is "normal?" Is anyone perfect? If someone had no problems in his/her life, is THAT normal? Think about that, too.

I have no idea about the percentage. I don't think and I have never seen any statistics on it. If it is YOU or your friend who is having an issue, what everybody else does not affect your decision. Do what is right for you.

What % of people see psychologists???? Not enough!!! Everyone has a disorder of some kind, it's the degree of disorder that is important. You're crazy if they put you into a hospital.

no, seeing a shrink doesnt necessarily make you crazy. some people just have minor problems that they want to get rid of. and probably 35%? that's just a guess, i'm not sure.

If I needed to go, I'd choose a psychiatrist because that's someone with an MD. I'm sure psychologists are nice people, and no doubt many are very good at what they do, but I would not choose to go to one.
