It's not that boys shouldn't go to dance lessons - that's perfectly normal. I do think, though, that enrolling your child in anything at the age of 2 is a little much - their little minds and bodies can't get much out of stuff like that, unless it's a really laid back thing. The exception to that thought is swimming... I don't think it's ever too early to get a kid used to water.

There is nothing wrong with sending a boy to dance lessons. It is your son and you are his mother and you ultimately know what is best for him. You cannot let his grandpa dictate what is best for your son. It could be that he objects to something else further along the line. You need to set the ground rules down now as regards how you bring up your son. Grandpa may not like it, but that's how it has to be. Good luck.

My daughter is 3 and goes to dance class. It's a professional stage school run by someone who studied at the Royal Ballet School. They don't take children for dance under the age of 3 as a rule although there is one 2.5 year old but she also has 2 siblings there. They haven't got the concentration. Might as well take him to a Tumble Tot session. He will probably get more out of it at that age.
That don't really answer your question as to what you should do about grandpa going ballistic. I would ask grandpa what he thinks his grandson should be doing instead of dance. Who knows, he might even offer to take him somewhere interesting once a week ;-)

Tell grandpa that dance lessons are an important way for gaining balance when your son wants to learn to swordfight someday

What is wrong with kids taking dance lessons? Some of you make it sound as though it were something nasty. It isn't. Good dancers are great athletes and good male dancers are always in demand. If he is old enough to start then go for it.

First of all, why does your father's opinion matter in this situation? He's YOUR son, and YOU know what's best for him more than anyone! No offense, but your father's stuck WAY in the past! We're living in the 2000's.... people are getting less and less narrow-minded and opening their eyes more and more to everything and all possibilities. Tell your dad that! He'll probably have a heart attack! =)

The kid is two? Why push it, let him alone for a few years and see if he's - um, how do I say this - the kind of guy who is interested in taking dance lessons? Before you enroll him. Give the kid a chance to show what HE wants to do.

he's your son and dancing is such a cool thing 2 get kids into, girls and boys. I would go for it and let your son make up his mind as to whether he enjoys it.. your kid. your decision.
