Forcing them will just make them hate it more. Too many parents trying to live vicariously through their kids. Also, too many parents yelling at their kids from the sidelines. That's what takes the fun out of the sport. When my son started playing baseball, I promised him he would never see me doing that, cuz I wouldn't. The biggest reason was I wouldn't know what I was talking about, as I had very little interest in sports when I was a kid.

I would highly encourage them to, but not force.
I think that when kids play sports they ultimately do better in school. The reasons why are simple. Being on a team gives them a safe social venue. Any achievement they make on their own (wrestlers) or as a team will boost their confidence. I know many people who had better grades when they were playing sports. It gives them something to do also, so they will be more apt to stay out of trouble. And the physical activities will help with any possible weight options they may face now or in the future. A kid who's in shape is much happier and more outgoing than a kid who's not.
So I would definately push for it and highly encourage it, however, I think forcing is overdoing it. Kids should be able to make SOME of their own decisions, it teaches them responsibility. If no matter how much you push for them to play, I would say don't show too much disappointment if they don't.

Force is a strong word but encoragement should be given for kids to partake in extra activities from sprots, dance, art, science and even to social and interest camps during the summer. Socializing is a great part of a childs education as much as the education itself

Well my parents put me in Ballet, hip hop dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, and i was always in beauty pagents but as i got older they let me quit the things i did not enjoy doing. So i only do cheerleading and Hip Hop. I think that parents should encourage extra activites but at the same time let the child make its own decisions. So yes and No.

Yes and no.
You should always make them try something new--it prepares them for all types of situations in life. Also, it promotes stronger social skills and makes them healthier, stronger, and happier in the long run.
If, however, AFTER the child has tried the sport or activity and they really dislike it or aren't very good or teased, you shouldn't force them. That would only be hurting the child. But you should keep searching then, for new activities that the child is more comfortable in.

Good question. I wish my parents had forced me into music theory and made me pick up an instrument.
Now I have 39 songs I can't write down except lyrically.

From experience, I've learned to find out what your child is interested in and go for that. If you force them to do something of that nature, it will never truly be in their heart. How can they be great at it, if they don't love it? Besides, forcing them to play the violin when they really want to play the drums breeds in them rebellion, and do they need help with that? I think not.

I believe they should encourage participation in extra-curricular things. There are so many choices, that a child should be able to find something that interests them. Extra-curricular activities engage children's minds, keeps them motivated, and keeps them active.

No way I think those parents should go take a class instead of living through their children . Children should be allowed to have fun and play creatively
