What do you mean by "best?" Best built? Best engineered? Safest? Best looking? Too many variables. It's basically a personal preference thing. One thing I do need to say to all you Mercedes lovers out there: if Mercedes are so good, why do they have the highest number of customer complaints? You suckers that buy a car to use as a status symbol would buy a big turd with wheels as long as it had a Mercedes emblem on it, and you'd let some guy with a German accent convince you with a load of BS, which you wouldn't understand (but were embarrassed to admit) why you would be better off driving the turd rather than a Toyota or a Honda or a Cadillac. I fix cars for a living and you couldn't give me a Mercedes. If I did decide I needed to waste a ton of money on a status symbol to make up for some shortcoming in my psyche, I'd buy a Cadillac, and with the money I saved, I'd get a new Victory motorcycle (not a harley, unless it was a v-rod) and dump the rest of what I saved into the Caddy motor so I could smoke any Mercedes or Porsche available in the USA. Now that's good old American know how at work.

They are not the best. Right now, Audi is considered best in performance luxury vehicles. Mercedes 2nd and BMW 3rd.
Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura's are also better. Cadillac's interior design is outdated and being an american car, it is not reliable, but fast.

Cadillac, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Lexus are the "lower" luxary cars, Mercedes and BMW are the "Middle" luxary cars, and Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Masarati are the "upper" Luxary cars.
The "lower" cars are still very nice, but there are many other cars "nicer"

Personally there are much better cars than GM's Cadillac. Mercedez are nice... maybe because of the hood ornament...
