A period in my life is coming up soon where I will be able to travel a lot for the first time. I want to go to Iceland as long as I'm going back to Scotland, but it seems like every method of getting there is prohibitively expensive. Even a one-way ticket purchased in advance by months is over $1000.
Any suggestions? I'm open to anything-including boats.

There is one low-cost airline that flies to Iceland from London, Copenhagen and other cities in Europe. The airline is called Iceland Express. If you book a ticket in a few months' advance then you can get a one way ticket for around $118. You just have to flip through the dates on their website to find the cheapest option and you can book the ticket online. Their website is http://www.icelandexpress.com
That is the cheapest way that I know of.

Have u tried googling for budget airlines to Iceland?If u have not, u might find something that more affordable there.My friends are visiting Ireland comin summer and as i know,the tickets are not so expensive.U can try the link below for more info on the airlines.If am not mistaken, Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland.Good Luck & Cheers! :)

Did you try kayak.com or sidestep.com? I remember when I was over in Europe there were a ton of specials to all over..perhaps they have it for Iceland too..try contacting a travel agency located in a country you'll be in before hand. Try this site too:
