because of branding. people know who the NAACP is and what they do.
if they change there name they will have to start all over with branding that name into people's mind.
The name NAACP has a long history that you think of when you here the name. if they change their name, people will think it's just some new group and not connect to it's long rich history and that could hurt some the clout this group has.
it would take to much time to reband the new name with that histroy. Time they can use to focus on more important things.
Plus it would cost to much money to get new stationary.

You did not ask an ignorant question at all. You asked a question that made some people uncomfortable and made them think about something unpleasant. That's why you are getting some snippy answers. And you are right on about the N word... the black rappers can use it right and left in the name of their " art " , but you bettter not even get past "***....".
I don't like that word at all and do not use it, but I do not like the double standard ignored by black Americans. They should take a stand against this.
Now, how long before I'll get a violation notice just for that. Oh, well, what the hell.....won't be the first time.

I think you’ve answered your own question. While the adjective “colored” in reference to non-whites in the U.S. has indeed long been politically incorrect, the term “person of color” is often used today by professional victims and their p.c. stooges (in politics and academia) in referring to a member of the protected class, that is, anyone who is not white. Because it is an organization in steep decline, the NAACP in particular does not want to limit its putative constituency to just those today called African-Americans or blacks, especially by rejecting a well-established name.

Dear, I don't think any considerate person has used the word "colored" since the 1960s.
A group gets to choose how they want to be referenced. This can, and does, change at any time.
I have never heard a person of color call themselves "colored." So I don't think they use that term.
When my Grandmother used to use this term (in the 1970s) I always asked her, "Are they green, purple or plaid?" That drove the point home, and she would fire back with an even worse word (unprintable, but still not the "N" word).
So it just goes to show you that we can choose to learn hatred, or learn to choose equality, and peace and justice. Which one do you embrace?

I call it an identity crisis. When the African American Population can get along amongst themselves and Sharpton is not insulting Obama anymore and stops calling him a pseudo-***** the African American population will be able to define who they are.
Also once they no longer feel disenfranchised in this society they will decide on an ethnic title.
Don't worry, give them time. They have only had their freedom for 170 years. It took us that long to determine that we were to be called Americans.
