I am a dance teacher and I am having trouble with barrell rolls. I was never taught how to do them and want to be able to teach them my advanced class. I have some books that give explanations, but not good ones. I am an experienced dancer (23 years of training in tap, jazz, ballet, and lyrical) so you can put in other terms and I will be able to understand. Any one out there who can give me a good break down will get 10 points!!!

Please don't answer just to get points. If you don't know what you're talking about, YOU are the one who looks stupid.

ok, I hope this explanation works.......
**start with a ball change step to the front (R foot steps front, L ft steps down in same place) this is your prep. AST- R arm pulls across front of body as your upper torso twists to L. Make sure your R shoulder drops and pulls to the L also.
**Now, you're going to pull your R knee up followed by the L knee. (this is the roll) AST- you "unwind" your torso and it lays in a somewhat "flat" position in the air. Really use your arms on this one to help lift you into the air and rotate. Your arms make an airplane type of motion as you do this turn. Keep them straight and strong as your pull them around.
**You are landing R ft then L ft as you body finishes the roll.

When executing the roll, spot the ceiling, then the floor, you need to have your head in a "laid back" position as you're rolling. This will allow your back to flatten out, instead of arching. That's what gives it the correct "barrel" look.
Try to get your legs up, knees stay bent.
If you were to take a picture in the middle of it it would look like you were laying on the floor with your knees bent up in the air.

Boy I tap danced for 15 years and I can't remember how to do this one. But after looking online I found instructions. I hope they help. Check out the website too for other tap moves!

With the weight on the L ft, extend the R foot back touching the floor (no wt). Lean extremely forward with the right hand practically touching the floor; the L arm is extended back overhead, both arms are in line with the shoulders. Execute a complete turn R, pivoting on the L in a backward motion. (R outside turn)

For lyrical 365 days, I danced to declare a sprint Prayer, the Alicia Keys version, yet Aretha Frankin did an exceedingly good version of it. you will possibly would desire to combine a pair of songs at the same time, i might think of lyrical and faucet may be no longer hassle-free to combine, fantastically because of the fact the style of song used for each are very different.
