What is friendship
The words "Friend" & "free" come from the same root word, suggesting that one aspect of the friendship is the freedom to be ourselves in the company of another person. "A friend ," said Ralph Waldo Emerson, "is a person with whom I may be sincere." Most friendships begin with shared interests or activities, which gradually develop into mutual trust, openness, affection, and loyality.
We like people who are similar to ourselves, who share our attitudes and values. When someone agrees with us, or makes the same choices we do, we gain confidence in our own views. proximity can also influence our choice of friends, be they co-workers or neighbors. Most of us tend to enjoy the companionship of the people of the same economic status and level of education. As we become older and our experience grows, our expectations of friendship change.
Sometimes we find ourselves attracted to people who are different and who can provide us with a fresh perspective. A very reserved person and an uninhibited person can often complement each other ; one friend gains a sense of stability while the other achieves spontaneity. Yet , for the relationship to endure, the "Opposite" friends may still need a common bond, and perhaps find it in a shared activity or sense of humour.
Friends can help fill other needs-for self-esteem or for reaching one's potential . When friends share an altruistic goal, such as a concern for justice or the cultivation of the arts, they are fulfilling Aristotle's description of "friendship of virtue".

well what is the true meaning of friendship? Everybody has a different opinion, there is not a written rule on how to be a friend. You could maybe write that a friendship is like a rollercoaster, it has its ups and downs, it has conflict, a friendship without conflict in my opinion is fake, you cannot have a friendship where everything is rosy, you must disagree on some things! Conflict may make the relationship stronger. But i also think a friend should be there through the good times, the bad and the rough even if you don't agree on the situation, always let a friend know you are there for them whatever happens.
Also frienships can still have secrets, you don't need to tell your friend everything. But the biggest factor i think in friendship is trust. Trust your friend to give you criticism and always be prepared to hear the truth. A true friend should always tell the truth, even tho sometimes the truth hurts.
Hope that helps.

Friendship can mean a lot of things.
Friends can be Mom and Dad, family members, relatives and acquaintances.
Everyone has friends whether they know it or not!
It is a very lucky person that has a "Special Friend".
Special Friends give and do not care about receiving.
They support and don't criticize.
They are not judgmental.
They help.
They are honest.
They are not jealous or envious.
They are a "shoulder" when one needs comfort.
They are there for you 24/7/365.
They are your Godfather ( Mafia type) and will resolve whatever it takes to make you happy.
There is much more...I did a paper on that several years ago...hopefully you can expand the beauty of having a Special Friend.
Few people have a Special Friend...they are very rare!
Hope that helps you.
Bob P.
PS: The only thing wrong with a Special Friend is that they won't share their favorite chocolate candy....only kidding!!!!

True friends are always there for you, no matter what! If you have a fight with your husband, and he leaves you stranded on the highway 100 miles from home, you can call a true friend & KNOW they will be on their way immediately.
True friends are never jealous--they congratulate you on that new promotion or gorgeous haircut, rather sniping behind your back about it.
True friends will let you cry on their shoulder as many times as it takes to feel better-----and they will also get all of these things BACK from you--THEIR true friend.

A true friend would bail you out of a jail, but a best friend would be sitting right next to you saying "what the hell were we thinking?"
