I agree 100%!!! I don't have kids of my own, but I work as a nanny taking care of a 16 month old. When we're out in public, we're often approached by strangers saying how cute he is and things of that nature, which is perfectly fine. What boils my blood is when they put their hands on him. He's not theirs for the touching! I don't understand why they think it's okay. I've had to ask people to please not touch, and while most are respectful, I've had the occasional arrogant jerk. One lady even cursed at me and walked away when she was asked not to touch. Sorry, it's nothing personal, it's just that he's a person and not a plaything and he doesn't know you. Geez.

Maybe you over reacted a little. The older folks are use to doing this. It's a way for them to express how they feel. They don't see anything bad in it. I've had many strangers do similar things to my 3 kids when they were little. As long as I'm standing there I don't have a problem with it. People today are too quick to jump to BAD conclusions when someone comes near their child. Not everyone is a pedophile. Some people just enjoy the beauty of a child.

It is completely up to you if you don't want people touching your baby! Do try your best to remember that this woman's children are probably all grown and long gone and she meant her touching to be a compliment, an endearing way of showing how beautiful your child is. You might say, "Oh she doesn't really care to be touched by strangers..." or something not too harsh so that people don't look at you like you are a crazy woman. Congrats on your baby girl!

people dont think especially elderly people. they just get overwhelmed by a cute child and have to touch. When i was small loads of strangers touched my hair as i had blonde ringlets God my hair must have got filthy! In this day and age we are far more aware of stranger danger germs and all sorts. I dont like strangers touching my 3yr old daughter and she doesnt either. what can you say to them?Hard one this

No, way you were right on every account! I hate how society thinks its alright to come up to a parents child and start touching on them as if they knew them or you. Then as a parent they make you feel guilty for what you believe is right. Its your child. This is world is sick as it is. Your child, your rules. Dont feel guilty. I would have done the very same thing. Perverted people come in every race, color and gender.

its your child and you have the right to say who can and cannot make contact with her.
you did not over react, you did not know that person and they should have asked first. germs are all over peoples hands and having a stranger touch your daughters face is not safe.

I did the same thing with my son...Last week we were at the super market and this guy (40) goes up to him (hes 3 months old) and says: You are so cute, I could just gobble you up...then he tried to take him out of the seat, like to carry him...I told him I was gonna call security! Security came, but he had already left.
