The food is oily and full of msg bc grease and msg are cheaper than good ingredients. Even if they don't use msg, they use a lot of grease bc they want customers to say that the food tastes good. Few restaurants make $ by serving healthy food. Ppl eat Chinese food probably bc they are looking for something that they normally don't eat at home. You might find better food (or at least, more authentic Chinese food) in larger cities like SF and NY bc many of the customers are Chinese from China and Hong Kong, not Chinese-Americans from Oklahoma.
I hate to rain on someone else's parade, but I once had dinner with a couple from Hong Kong and we ate egg foo young, honey chicken, won ton soup and fortune cookies. The couple thanked me for the "American meal." When I told them that we had eaten Chinese food, they thought I was kidding them.

Me either I hate it expet for chicken and noodles. Not all chinese food is served without care. They proably are looking for something that they normally don't eat at home. More expensive places prepare it better, but yes, a lot of it is fatty and sloppy. Why are people eating it - I suppose because it tastes good. People will eat anything. Especially when it's fast and tastes good. The food is oily and full of msg because grease and msg are cheaper than good ingredients. Even if they don't use msg, they use a lot of grease because they want customers to say that the food tastes good. Few restaurants make money by serving healthy food. You might find better food in larger cities like SF and NY because many of the customers are Chinese from China and Hong Kong, not Chinese-Americans from Oklahoma also they is China town were there is good chinses food.

Well I dint know what restaurants you frequent but there are some really good Chinese food restaurants that serve lots of meat and fresh veggies, also without the MSG! My favorite is Peter Chu's at the airport in Redding, CA I stay away from all the Chinese restaurant chains.

You get what you pay for....They can make it better but that costs more. As to the little meat comment that is normal. Chinese do not use large amounts in their cooking.
Want the real stuff then go to China. But don't look for a "Chinese Restaurant" there they just call it FOOD.

Well, you basically said it youself. The Chinese sell this stuff as authentic to Americans and we don't know any better. I've never been to China, so I'm unaware in the differences in the food.
It happens in every country. I mean look at McDonald's in every country; those individuals probably believe that this the definition of American cuisine; when in actuality (for myself, at least) it isn't.

Because 'real' chinese food would freak most Americans out! LOL! Most authentic chinese food is not unhealthy... they are made unhealthy by deep frying and adding MSG to cater to what Americans are used to - it's about giving people what they want - and what sells best.

There are still good chinese restaurants out there, but they are hard to find. Many of the smaller buffets are terrible, but some of the big ones are OK. Finding an old fashioned sit down chinese restaurant in many cities is difficult. I miss them a lot.

Don't blame the Chinese, blame the Americans. Real chinese food is not unhealthy but since America is suppose to be a multi-culture society, they take this and change it a bit but unfortunately, they make the food extremely bad. Our food industry is not all like you. Most of them care more about price and taste first. Shame on the consumers not the Chinese. Don't hate on my people.
