I wanted to maybe be a administrative assistant or bookkeeper. I just moved here and all jobs pay $5.15 and I got major school bills to pay and I need a degree or job fast!

You should get a degree, but if you want a fast track start with a certificate. Just don't stop there :). Some of the courses you take for the certificate also count towards an Associates / Bachelors.

You can take continuing education (CE) classes or the regular credit courses at the community colleges and get certificates. North Harris Montgomery Community College District (www.nhmccd.edu) offers courses in accounting and office skills.

Some of the certificates you might want to look at... Computer Literacy Certificate, Professional Bookkeeper Certificate, and Accounting Certificate.

On average, people with college diplomas earn tens of thousands of dollars more per year than people without college diplomas. In some limited cases, people who don't finish college but who are very smart (Bill Gates) become very successful. Going to college is a safe choice, whereas starting a business is risky and has a high rate of failure, although you are correct that it has the potential for high returns. Additionally, people who don't start businesses but start out as employees and become CEOs (i.e. the wealthiest people in America) all went to college.
