Yes. The cleats on a soccer shoe are usually small (about the size and shape of gum-drops) and uniformly spaced along the length of the sole. Baseball cleats are usually shaped like small "blades" and are grouped around the toe, ball of the foot and heel. 9-spike shoes are usually the most common, but modern ones have as few as five or six.
In general, soccer cleats are better on grassy or soft surfaces while baseball cleats are better for digging into hard dirt. If you child plays in a league where the fields are all dirt and very hard, soccer cleats may actually slip on the surface.
Also, the toes and uppers on baseball cleats tend to be reinforced, while soccer cleats are built to be lightweight for all the running. Pitchers and infielders put a lot of wear on their shoes because they "push off" on their back foot when throwing, and can wear through a soccer upper pretty quickly.
That said, if your child is playing two sports and you only want to get one shoe, definitely go with the soccer cleats. Baseball shoes would be awful for soccer.
Just have your youngster wear his/her soccer cleats and run across the dirt infield. If the shoes get a good grip, there should be no problem. Honestly, it shouldn't make that much of a difference until around age 13 or 14.

There is a small difference in the spacing of the cleats; baseball usually has them at the toe, ball of the foot, and heel with the instep area empty. Soccer & football usually have cleats the entire length of the shoe for added traction on the turf.
But really, if a kid has either he would be doing fine on a baseball field. It should make no difference until they are about 14 or so.
If a coach or another parent has a problem with a baseball player wearing soccer cleats tell them to either purchase them for you or take a flying leap.

For a kid under the age of 13 or so there will be no difference. The point, length, and arrangement of the spikes are slightly different but shouldn't make a difference to a young kid. I would definitely go w/ the soccer ones because he is probably going to need new cleats quite often as he grows.

Soccer cleats usually have more spikes due to the consistent amount of running.
Baseball cleats have less spikes and the spikes are positioned in certain places for immediate treading.
