We have four computers networked through Windows XP Professional home network. The problem is that we would like to remove two of the systems from the network, but we are not sure how. What steps does one take to remove a system from a home network setup?

More details for this question........I cannot disconnect them, as they all share the internet. One computer needs to be able to share files, but the other two only internet & printers. Is there not a simple way to remove certain computers fromt he MS home Network? Thank you!

As long as the computers to be removed are NOT gateway computers (you would know if they were), you are completely safe to remove. Any shared printers that were on them can easily be relocated to a different computer (or not even used if not needed).

Now, what are you going to do with them??? If you are selling them, MAKE SURE you secure erase the hard drive, as who knows what kind of personal information is there. A simple delete is not good enough.

first look at your shared resources and unmap or disconnect any shared resource (disk printer etc) that is coming from those computers, then unplug them from the lan. if you do not disconnect the shares, each time you bring your pc up, it will look for the share and tell you it could not be found.
