welll.... thats akward.
If your freind's not gay... um... be like "I'm really sorry, but I don't know what to tell you... I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I'm really not, I just don't know exactly how he'd react if you told him straight out like that."
Unless your freind is also gay... then say something like "Oh, well, why don't you guys do something on friday? I'm sure ____ doesn't have any plans!"

Let him get on with it in his own way. No harm will be done as the non gay guy will soon put a stop to it.

He should be asking that guy himself not you. If your friend's straight, and you know wouldn't be interested in this just tell the kid to cool off. It's not happening.

so if your friend is gay or bisexual then tell the kid 2 ask him out, but if your friend is compleatly straight then tell the kid that he is straight
but tell him nicely....or ther might be drama

Well, there are all kinds of crushes. It might not be a sexual one. I remember being very crushed out on a neighbor-- but I really didn;t want sex with him.
