How do I deal with an irritating co-worker who is on the same level as you are that is trying to act like she is my new boss so that she can show our bosses that she's on top of everything. She has nothing but high school education and run's the administrative part of our company while i run another department. Lately she has nothing to do on her end as our company is not as big, and since she doesnt want to look like she's doing nothing she is constantly on my case asking me dumb questions such as have your replied so and so's email or have you sent such and such to so and so. I'm an educated individual with atleast two degrees and i am trying to be kind to my co-worker and patient in order to keep our relationship smooth but she is driving me nuts. I have made it a habbit to ignore the emails that are irritating e.g the one's asking me if i have replied so and so's email but she's not getting the hint and she's trying to boss me around. Help me!

You don't have time to read a book - but do some quick searches for 'feedback'. There is no substitute for honest and direct feedback. Let her know how her actions make you feel and ask her to stop. If that does not work, take it to your supervisor. I would not go to your supervisor without trying to resolve it yourself first.

-----There are a number of books available on how to deal with problem co-workers, bosses, and subordinates. I suggest you look through them at a big bookstore. I would be careful about what I do; the wrong thing can have major bad consequences. However, since you are feeling bad about it, you should not just sit and take it; you should do something. ---Jim

I would talk to my supervisor about it and possibly even her supervisor.
