I quite like Ulysess (Ul-liss-eeze right?) as a boys name. Its has a strong feel to it, and I love the fact it has history. I think having an ancient name is a good thing. I know a kid called Achilles, which is really sweet.

Yeah its unusual, but you can teach him the stories that go with his name, and he can then tell them to people who think its weird. Its a bit like naming a boy Sawyer after Tom Sawyer. It might help him get an interest in history, and the character is a good one

There isnt actually much teasing potential in the name, other than because its different. The only bad rhyme is with fleas, and it doesnt sound like something else (eg Conon - Colon).

Nicknames for growing up- Uli

For a girl its a bit more odd, but maybe?

I wouldn't say it is dumb. Think of a little toddler girl with the name Ulysses- cute! A kid girl?- Somewhat cute... teenager/adult/elder? ... its just unattractive. If you think of a male in any age with the name Ulysses... its only good for an old man. But this is only my opinion.

it is an older name and it would be considered odd now a days. I would say for a girl it would be dumb considering it is a masculine name. For a boy not really dumb just odd

Ulysses is a great name. I've never heard of a girl named this, but why not?

Ulysses is one of the oldest names around. It's strong, literate, but not usual. It would be fun for the kid to learn how to spell, too.

Only if the name is for a cat or a dog. Maybe a rabbit but please don't do that to a defenseless child of either gender.
