It is basically the same thing.
If you research it (try wikipedia and go from there), you'll find that it's called Social Democracy. Socialism and Progressive movements flourished in the earlier part of the 20th century.
Prior to and during the Communist conversion (about 1949) that we call the 'Red Scare', there was some splintering, and much of the Socialist term was left out of the Democratic term...although, it remained in creed.
The US Socialist and Communist Parties have routinely supported, and furthered the cause of 'Democratic' candidates, as well as radical activists movements (read the websites and the biographies).
The Communist site (and literature) simply states it will conquer th US by peaceful means, by silently infiltrating the ranks of public office with Socialists. (READ IT)
Also investigate the Fabian Society, and it's elite school the London School of Economics (JFK, Clinton are grads). It teaches Socialized Economics as envisioned by John Maynard Keynes.....the man who helped FDR forge his "New Deal", and got a nation hooked on Socialist handouts.
Please, don't take my word for it......READ.
By the way, I'm neither Dem nor Republican. Both parties I find repulsive.

Republicans = Anarchy? Hell no lol Democrats = Socialism, Hell definite the two sides are to socially controlling in diverse techniques. All we choose is an equivalent and point taking part in field on which we can all aspire to get what we choose in accordance to the artwork we are keen to put in. the government needs to be out of what would not impression the rights of others extra effective than it impacts the priority, like drugs, and abortion. Democrats choose administration of each and every of the components in the rustic too, so they might consolidate skill.

Socialism is very taboo here in the US, despite the fact that the only reason there are labor laws was because of the very same ideals that you're dismissing. Expecting Big Business to regulate itself is just plain stupid. That's why we have the FDA, laws that ensure that you can't hire children, that some minimal safety and hygiene regulations have to be implemented, etc. And ask anyone from western Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, etc if they'd like to trade for whatever health coverage you have. While I'm certainly not suggesting that socialism doesn't have its share of flaws and limitations, throwing out the baby with the bathwater and dismissing it as something that hasn't contributed anything positive to the world only goes to show your own ignorance.

Where do you come up with this stuff? First of all, your terms are undefined. Second, you assume that government programs are hand-out programs. I can just as easily say that you're a lazy bum for sitting on your lazy tail while soldiers are fighting and dying for your right to sit around and gripe about bogeymen that exist only in your head. In fact, I will say that - consider it done.
Now, more important - just for fun, would you please exerpt or post the e-mail that you received this week from the Heritage Foundation or Cato Institute or College Republicans? This sudden epidemic of the use of the word "socialism" doesn't happen by accident.
What exactly do you have against what you call socialism? Oh wait, I forgot - you STILL haven't defined your terms.

I honestly believe they don't see it as embracing socialistic ideals. They think they are creating one world based on love. I also feel they have a tough time facing the realities of life though. They do lean heavily toward Socialism. You can call a turd diamond but good luck getting someone to wear it on their finger.

Ok, one more time for the reality impaired:
every morning when I turn on my lights in my office, fire up the phones and the computers and start churning out profits, I negate your "democrats are socialists" blather. I totally bury your uninformed mindset this time every single year when my tax accountants and I prepare my taxes and dutifully send them off, state and federal.
I obliterate your ridiculous concept standing in front of my banker on Friday, and then laugh at you all during dinner at my wife's favorite Michelin starred restaurant. Just because I feel bad for you missing out on the joys of properly taught Politcal Science, I tip my server an extra $50.

Ummm - the highest tax bracket during the largest economic expansion (1945 to 1960 something) in US history was 88%. That fact alone makes a mockery of the question.

If the Democrats are Socialist the Republicans are truly Fascist. The Democrats very much support Capitalism, they just try to legislate fairness.
