you can't send it directly to the inmate, of course. call the prison and they'll tell you how to address it. A money order should work, but they'll have to tell you who exactly to make it out to.

You can find out the method of payment from the actual prison. If you do a search on yahoo, it should give you their phone number and you can call and find out. Not all prisons are the same. Don't just drop cash into a letter. They won't get it. And, if it is to somebody that you don't know, I would stop and think about it first. Another way to send inmates money is through western union. It is kind of expensive but the inmate gets it directly. Plus, any Walmart has a direct pay to your prisons too. It is around $8.00 to send money but, they get the money fast too.
Your best bet is to call the facility and see what they allow. And if you send a money order, it must be a Postal money order, not just one from walmart or your local bank.
good luck!

I assume it would be the same as it is here in Texas. Contact the prison and get his inmate number and ask for a form to complete to make a deposit into his inmate account. You have to use a money order. Then you send it to the address given. They cannot withdraw cash, but only use it for commissary purchases and things that are approved by the prison. Just make sure you are not writing to a prison penpal and he is asking for you to put money into his account. After all, these folks are "con"victs. Don't send money to people you don't know personally in there. You may get "conned"!
