well I mean why should we or why shouldnt we,

I really want you guys to think before you respond

have heard about 2 diffrent sides on this both of witch I partialy agree with

I agree that for some pot can be a gate way to a whole list of mistakes that I dont want to get in to but so can just about everything else (Beer,Sex, Driving Fast,Money, Chocolate etc.) so to me that doesnt really back up that argument.

I have heard that it should be leagal and we should tax the **** out of it I agree with that except by doing so you going to turn the average liturally non addictive substance over to corperations that will most likely turn out like big tabacco and the will do the same thing they did with tabacco geneticaly inhance its addictive qualities and boom thier is another epidimic the size of crack

Marijuana has many, many positive uses. It is used to help people with Aids wasting syndrome and people undergoing chemotherapy to eat. It helps to slow the progression of glaucoma. It eases muscle spasms and twitches caused my Multiple Sclerosis and many other neurological disorders. Also, hemp is an environmentally sustainable product, and has little to no impact on the environment to produce. It can be used to make clothing, rope, any kind of cloth product, oils, candles, soaps, etc, etc. Also, in comparison to the two legal drugs on the market, cigarettes and alchohol, there have been no deaths or overdoses attributed to marijuana, ever, while every year, thousands of people die from the affects of cigarettes and alchohol. The reason that it is illegal is very simple: money. The government knows that it really can't be taxed or regulated well, or in a way that benefits them. They make a lot of money from weed related offenses, and are in no hurry to lose that income. Weed as a gateway drug is a little bit ridiculous to me. Most of the people I know, including myself, think that alchohol is the biggest gateway drug there is. When you smoke weed, you can still make rational decisions, you don't black out, you certaintly can't overdose, and while your reflexes are slowed a little bit, It does not impair your vision, balance, coordination, and all other motor skills the way that alchohol does. Weed should be legalized, and our jails should stop being overpopulated by recreational cannabis users.

your whole point on the tax situation is totally true and enhancing it is as well, but that's all ready started, its no longer the "pot" that out moms and dads smoked in the 60's its got all kinda crazy crystals and names now a days. But i think for me it should be illegal in medical situations, now a days the whole country is so over prescribed as it is on so many more dangerous DRUGS like vicodine and morphine where people can take 80 pills at a time and die, but maybe if these people were smoking a lil "pot" than it may take the edge off the pain for a little while instead of having people overdosing. Doctor now a days usually dont listen and don't give a thought about prescribing Vicodine and the long list of others to anyone who has a broken leg for example and what happens when the leg is healed and now they have a whole new problem, addicted to pills i say that smoking weed is allot better than poping pills. i hope this may make people think of it in a totally different way....

legalize it. we have double standards in this country about drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and prescription drugs. how is it that alcohol and cigarettes two highly addictive substances that cause a wealth of health and societal problems are legal while marijuana which has been proven to be less dangerous and not addictive is illegal. also throw in the mix that this country takes more prescription drugs than any other, many of which with questionable side effects and its clear that the laws against marijuana have nothing to do with public safety.

read the history of the anti marijuana laws and you will see that the original laws were created in response to the immigration of mexicans into this country. People didnt want them here and they knew they grew and smoked weed so that was an easy way to get rid of them. Even the laws that were created werent even against using the drug, they were a tax on its possession that was later shown to be unconstitutional. so there is no logic behind those laws.

some will say that marijuana is a gateway drug. it is in the sense that those who take harder drugs have typically also smoked pot. but if you asked i bet that most of those people would also say they drank or smoked cigarettes even before they tried pot. so what really is the gateway drug? clearly cigarettes and alcohol are much worse gateway drugs, they just happen to be legal.

marijuana should legalized and regulated just like cigarettes and alcohol. why waste money fighting the war on drugs when that war has never actually worked. do people use drugs at any less of a rate in this country than they did before we declared war on drugs? in actuality they probably used drugs less. nowadays drugs are prevalant and easy to get.

finally one more thing. clearly the real drug problem in this country is the abuse of prescription drugs. a recent study came out that said that drug usage was down amongst teenagers of all the illegal drugs. but what was up was the abuse of prescription drugs like adderrall or percoset. that is a major problem. why is that officials in this country dont declare a war on that drug problem? because the whole thing is tied up in money. the drug companies have too much money and power. so as far as i'm concerned if there is no logic to the laws and they clearly are not serving their purpose then why have them. wouldnt we be better off coming up with laws that truly do benefit the public?

There are valid arguments, as you pointed out, for both sides of the debate.

It boils down to this for me--if the potheads would stay at home and eat their munchies and not get out on the road when I'm driving, I wouldn't care if they wanted to ruin their lives.

I don't think turning it over to big business would make it any more dangerous. You would have a standardized product with no surprizes--it's the law that packaged products for human consumption have a list of ingredients on them. And the joints would be so pretty--we could have different color papers, pink, blue, green with gold leaf filters on them. DUH! No, I don't think people would just start smoking pot because it was legalized.

The prison population would shrink dramatically, and our tax dollars could be spent on better things.

Honestly, are you retarded? It's no longer rhetorical, both. Were you dropped, or are you the manufactured from inbreeding? Cocaine is a chemical compund that, if legalized, could be produced in laboratoies, no longer the again room of the regional mechanic's save. Legalized medications, nevertheless, are a nasty inspiration in the end.

How about looking at it a different way.

Uncriminalize it.

Prior to 1914s Harrison Narcotics act
I could buy and use Coke (the real, REAL thing), heroin, opium, pot etc etc etc.

Prohibition does what it always does, make it dangerous because it is illegal.

I am responsible for the consequences of my behavior, not the nanny state.

Drugs are bad, drug laws worse.

BEACUSE IT CANT BE TAXED!(sorry) yeah why do you think the tobacco companys make a killing out of selling tobacco? because it can only be grown in farms, making us depend on the corporations. We never see our state protesting it even though it has openly admitted to killing people only because the states make alot of money through the tax revenues. Weed on the other hand can be home grown and sold on the street without tax. We live in a capitalist country, dont expect weed to be legal.

The simple solution is legalize it. If big companies want to tax it, oh well. When people can easily and legally grow it and sell it, who will buy it form the big companies anyway? Just like Prohibition did not stop alcohol consumption, nothng will stop pot smokers.

nicotene, alcohol, caffine, and sugar are legal. all are mood and mind altering. all can bring on minor or major health problems. personally, i believe one reason it is not legal is because it is not socially acceptable, like alcohol and nicotene. from what i've read, those kill more than marijuana. and marijuana is actually safer than those in so many ways.

do the math.
