I have been reading for the past six days questions posted on this Politics section and reading a few answers. So, my question is, with all the name calling and hate filled questions what does everyone think they are accomplishing or is this just a forum to show off some "fake rage"?
I hope I get honest, mature and intelligent answers.

I'm sorry to inform you that all of the hate you see on here is probably intentional, and does reflect the beliefs and opinions of the individuals that post them. Many in America pick a party, for whatever reason, and then tune into that party's media outlets that decry the other side's scandals, and downplay their own. So when it comes to discussing issues, you get this shouting match of "who's wrong and I'm right".

While some of this is human nature, and is to be expected, it really saddens me when some issue of government corruption is exposed, that individuals on the other side actually cheer it on, like they just won something when in realirty it is just hurting America.

Here's how I responded to one of those "hate" questions the other day.

Quote:

As you are finding out, your stereotypical question pretty much has no merit.

Not all liberals hate our troops.
Not all conservatives are warmongers.
While the military is mostly conservative, liberals do serve.
Not all liberals believe we shouldn't have gone into Iraq.
Not all conservatives believe we should have.
Not all liberals believe we should get out of Iraq immediately.
Not all conservatives believe we should stay there forever.
Not all liberals believe in abortion.
Not all conservatives are anti-abortionists.
Not all liberals are welfare recipients.
Not all conservatives are rich.
Not all liberals believe Bush is the worst President ever.
Not all conservatives believe Bush is the best President ever.

Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of the broad sweeping stereotypical generalizations that compose too many of the questions and answers here. We could have meaningful dialogue here and exchange viewpoints back and forth, but some people only want to attack.

If you think something I say is wrong, give me a well-written and well-supported reason why I'm wrong. I'll respect your opinion even though I may not agree, as long as you have done your homework. And you may just change my mind. Don't just say I'm a scumbag and leave it at that.

This is where we are in politics today. We've been headed that direction awhile. You know, I can remember back when it wasn't like that. You'd have frank discussions with people whom you disagreed, politely end the conversation, and refer to them as crazies in the privacy of your home with your family.

Now folks are just rude. I think that started with the death of the "Fairness Doctrine" which back in the dark ages required broadcasters to give equal time to opposing political views when a particular political view was expressed on the airwaves.

This led to the rude political commentators we hear on talk radio and on purportedly fair and unbiased T.V. Frankly now both sides have gotten into the act spinning outrageous claims against the other, and folks who have nothing more important to do in their lives than listen to the garbage swallow it all in one gulp.

Then to top it all off, we now have a president who's chief political strategist's (Rove) basic strategy was to polarize the American public and get out the vote from their end of the pole.

Small wonder, everyone hates each other, that hate has been institutionalized and is a basic ingredient in political strategy.

So what is Cons/Libs if it is not name calling it is conservative, liberals if you want to be proper. In answer to your question I think it is all part of the process. There are extremeist on both sides of the Isle and there are moderates such as yourself. While I shudder to say it everyone has a point. I myself am a lib and probably concidered way left. I use the word repuglican when addressing the right side but I feel it really does no real harm to anyone. Remember what mom said and we all had mom's "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me"

Speaking as someone who has been on the receiving end of some of this "fake rage" (I was told that I wouldn't know my backside from a hole in the ground, and that I was out of my mind by someone who is gramatically challenged), and someone who has actually answered a couple of these hate-filled questions, what I am trying to accomplish is to let everyone -- libs and cons, alike -- know that I am an educated, free-thinking, logical, and analytical U.S. citizen who is interested in the future of our nation. By expressing my opinions and sharing information which I may possess, I am hoping to strengthen the ranks of the like-minded Americans, invite those still on the fence to join my side, and use articulate, logical arguments to refute those folks who rely on name-calling, hate-mongering, and conspiracy theories to espouse their political views.

Some people have nothing to offer but the hate and insults.
And some do it just for the kicks and the rise it gives them.

Sadly, too many people on both sides are unwilling to rationally discuss the issues on the merits, and so resort to name calling and mass attacks on anyone who disagrees with them.

It's a side-effect of the current political climate, and the way the media (both liberal and conservative) pundits tend to spend more time attacking people than discussing issues.

For every rational, sane, fact-filled argument you find on YA, you have to trudge through hundreds of barely literate, hate-filled diatribes.

I try to learn from the good and ignore the bad, but freely admit to poking fun at some of the REALLY bad ones.

Good question!

The charmer who posted above me is EXACTLY what is wrong with this country!! Quit being a partisan tool, for God's sake.

The problem on the politics section is the neocons and the neolibs, the extremes of either end and using each other as examples of the party as a whole, catching the moderates of both parties in the middle of hate filled mudslinging crossfire.

This is a good venue to explain both sides of the equation.

For instance, I believe:

Let's elect hillary and let another clinton make a joke out of the whitehouse.

A lot of those with liberal opinions are not even Americans.

And yes, for those people this is just a forum to insult Americans and everything American.
