Every child is different but some children do walk as early as 9 to 10 months. My friend's daughter was walking all by herself (not holding anything) this fall to all our amazement at only 9 months.

My son was 8 1/2 months when he took his first solo steps. He walked for 2 days until my mother arrived for a visit and wanted to carry him everywhere. He must have decided that was faster because it wasn't until a couple of weeks after she left (he was 9 1/2 months then) before he took off again on his own, he hasn't slowed down yet - 36 years later.

My son went to daycare with a little boy who was 9 months old and walking. I am not sure what the youngest age is though.

I don't know about a world record but my sister's daughter starting walking at 9 months. You should have seen how weird that looked for such a small, short baby to be walking.

My mother tells me that I walked at 7 months, and I know I'm not the only one. I've heard of other babies walking that young, too. I'm not sure what the youngest is, though!

One of my grand kids never crawled. He stood up and walked. I think it was about 9 mo. It worried me so I did some research. It can cause coordination problems. He's just turned 9 years old and has bad coordination between his feet and arms. He has difficulty throwing a ball and things of that nature.
I just thought I would mention it in hopes that parents wouldn't push too hard to get an early walker. Let them crawl, it really is good for them.

There was a baby on the news in England just a couple of weeks ago who had astounded medical proffesionals by walking at 6 months. They couldn't understand how she/he could hold there own weight!
