After you have created the recovery Cd's, you can remove that if you want. Or you can call the manufacture and get the recovery cd's for your computer and get rid of the recovery partition all together.

This goes for both a desktop and notebook
Removing the recovery partition
One recovery option available, but not recommended, is removing the recovery partition from the hard drive. While this action will free up storage space, the only restore or recovery option available is a compete, destructive reformatting of the hard drive using the set of recovery disks. The options to recover individual drivers or applications, and to reinstall the operating system no longer exist.
Do the following actions to remove the recovery partition from the hard drive.
WARNING: The drive will be reformatted and all user data erased. This action is not recommended. Be sure to create a set of recovery disks BEFORE performing this action.

Connect PC to the AC power adapter.
Close all programs.
Click Start, click All Programs, select System Recovery, and click PC Recovery.
When the recovery options are presented, select the option to perform the PC Recovery and click Next.
The PC will restart.
When the Welcome to PC Recovery message displays, click OK to continue.
On the System Recovery panel, click Advanced Options.
On the Advanced Options panel, select the option to Delete Recovery Partition, and click Next.
The partition is removed to provide additional disk space and disk is formatted. An operating system and programs must now be installed on the hard drive.

Defrag isn't a concern. The application will purely defrag the partition. that's all it continuously does as a force that may not partitioned is in certainty partitioned... It purely in basic terms has one partition instead of three as on your case.

defrag will not reclaimANY(ok maybe 2 or 3 KB) disk space on a recovery partition. Defrag just rearranges file segments that have strayed to speed up disk access, it's not really a cleaner...more of an organizer. Delete all temp files that are over a week old from window/temp folder. delete any wallpapers you don't need.
Actually just buy a new HDD... 250 GB for less than 50 bux

I use a recovery partition on my hd as well...personally I'd leave it alone! There's always the possibility of corrupting your img backups. If you don't care about that, then go ahead and do it...but I'd make some fresh img backups to replace the ones I defragged.

defrag doesn't free up storage memory.

The answer is yes, it's okay to defrag.
