Norton tends to assume you want to use it and it alone, so disables other antivirus/spyware and firewall software

Running two antivirus and firewall programs can cause allsorts of problems. I personally would uninstall all your antivirus/firewall programs Check through list of programs for any other similar software. Then restart and check that your windows firewall is off by clicking START then CONTROL PANEL then double click SECURITY CENTRE and switching off windows firewall. Then reinstall your Norton Antivirus etc from BT and follow the prompts and you should find that Norton works well.

Good Luck

You need either Norton or the other one, not both. Uninstall your least favorite. If that still does not work, go into control panel, Windows protection centre, and switch off the alerts.
