I have to do an essay on batman begins and I have a couple questions. How does batman begins legitimize violence? How is the notion of violence topical to our world today, like how can I connect batman begins to the war in Iraq? How des the film treat the history of colonialism/ colonization, this one I really don't get? Or could you also give me any tips for writing a successful essay?

first of all awsome name.
I think gothem city sybolizes much of America today especially in crime fested areas, Batman Begins basically covers the whole view of batman so you really can get your information about it anywhere. Gothem city is basicaly a war in Irag, its like a never ending battle or war, explosions, crime every where you name it. I also think batman symbolizes America its self or just a idividual, shure he dosent have any super powers but he has a will and reason to help and do all that he can to keep the same thing from happaning to him. For your essay I would keep Gotham City in mind because it is easy to relate with.

For your essay dont be afraid to voice your opinion but if it is more of a research one then be shure to state good evidence. hope this helped!
P.S. great pick for a essay!

compare it to a police officer shooting a bank robber when hes about to shoot a teller. say at times you have to fight fire with fire. when the cause is justified, so are the means. batman dealt justice when no one else would or could. well you could connect it to the war in iraq if they ever really found wmds. they didnt, so i dont see how you really could. you could say sometimes the good guy has to stop the bad guy even before has does bad. then again, thats never really justifiable. if you can go back that far, compare it to the first war in iraq. invasion of kuwait. da da da you know, if you dont read my friend, read. the colonial answer is talked about in the movie right before they burn down wayne manor. forgive me for ranting.

Before Bruse became batman he lived in the world of crime...yet he never crossed over...he slept and lived with the despret criminals of the world...he was facing men of true crime...murders...gangster...people that would take a life and laugh about it...and he saw nothing being done about it. Crooked cops, greedy politicions. He used violence but he never croosed over to murder...he believed in true justice and the court system...Bruce wayne is a true believer in the democratic system where everyone is only as strong as the weakest memeber of society...and he knew sometimes you have to get your hands a little dirty.

lol, what a silly essay, even for a film school student.

I think you should read more into the mythology of Batman from the comic books to understand the character.
