Yes it does, for every 100 pounds you lose something like 4% efficiency and so use more gasoline to achieve the same results.

Yes it does effect because it puts a larger strain on the engine, the same as a human with a heavy back pack. but not enough to make you take the 40lbs if your close to E. if you had furniture in your car, then that would make a difference.

They say 100# extra weight costs about one mile per gallon. If you only have 40# extra you probably would not notice a difference.

40p it dosent make a big defrnt but ther is some other thing cost extera gas incloding waight, driving with AC on, short trips
( because its use mor gas to get the wrait tempretur), low tier pruser, and how you start driving on the stop light the faser the momr gas . . . . etc

laws of physics say yes, but in reality, the decrease in mpg is so small you won't be able to tell the difference.
if you are conscious about mpg, take it easy on the accelerator pedal (w/out falling below speed limit or endangering yourself or others) from time to time.

no u shouldnt see a diff. at all depending on how far u are travelng with it if ure car is good on long trips and u are going on a short trip then ull think it did but no its shouldnt
