I have a few ideas for inventions. Where do I start?

I am a very organized person and have come up with a few ideas for improving or creating household products. I do not know what to do to start the developement process. Has anyone done anything like this or am I way off base. I would appreciate any help out there.

I have sold my ideas to companies.

The best steps to take are:

-figure how much the product would wholesale and retail for
-which company would like your idea
-Is your item salable (a clearly defined market)
-Make a workable model (companies want to see that you have knowledge and researched your item)
-Advertise as much as you can
