to the 8th answerer... thousands of people die (although you never really told me why or from what) but they definitely don't in the way those in Angola and Sierra Leone are.

Millions of people not only die but the country and the people of it are completely displaced. You can't even call them lives anymore, its hell on earth.

The diamond industry is a huge scam caused by a monopoly called De beers located in London. I have not bought a diamond in years. Probably will never do so again. Read up on the real story of diamonds ... It will make you sick.

I've always thought that diamonds were the biggest waste of money I've ever seen. Working class people finance those things at ridiculous interest rates to boot.

I'm sure it's a very serious problem, and therefore awareness should be raised and action taken.

Most commodities are traded through different hands that may or may not be clean:

-Bananas (chiquita funding terror groups)
-wood (indonesian teak is farmed by armed groups)
-tanzanite (is traded by the taliban, al qaeda, and others)
-flowers (come from colombia and other countries with questionable farms)

i would buy diamonds, but only ones from Canada. we have daimonds in northern canada. And here we don't kill people and our diamonds are mined legally and no one is mistreated, so if you are going to buy diamonds get canadian diamonds because they are completely legal.
