I saw this at a Target store in NC. The cashier asked a man that had some wine if he was buying alcohol, then asked him to find a different cashier because it was against her religion to deal with alcohol. She was Muslim. I have heard of the same thing at another Target regarding pork (saw on www.littlegreenfootballs.com). Has this happened to anyone else?
Note: I saw this first-hand - this is not an 'urban legend.'

I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it. The religion of the person is not the point of my question - I just wonder if this has happened to anyone else. I agree the woman should not have been a cashier - I suspect the company feared disciplining her (lawsuit)

I live in NC and no, I have never seen this happen. First of all if it is against her religion to deal with alcohol, then she shouldn't be working where it is sold. Second, I would have gone to the store manager and told them that the cashier refused to wait on me.

It's illegal for minors to sell alcohol in MI; so we put up signs in front of the lanes with the 17-year-old cashiers saying 'alcohol-free lane' or something like that. I can't see why Target didn't do the same.

That is odd and I am glad I have not had to deal with that because I would have been mildly up set because if I had waited in line then been refused service for no reason that I had caused.
