I am considering buying a laptop with Vista already installed.
Does it only stink if you install it on a computer that previously had another os installed? - or -
Are people finding that it works well on new systems that have never had another os installed?

I really liked it, and I had a rubbish computer.

They say your battery life will shorten as opposed to that which you would get under XP, but as code is written that is more friendly under Vista, e.g. makes use of the power saving ability of the dual cores etc... then battery life should start matching that from Windows XP.

But people said the same things about XP when it came out. Its rubbish, it uses so much Ram and that Windows 98 was much more hardware friendly, "256mb was average back then!". Those same people now tout Windows Xp as being the best platform ever.

Well, when Vista gets into its stride, it will amaze us. I can't wait to play Halo 2 on it.

Even if you don't want to use it now, you with inevitably have to. Why not start early? Make your mistakes now, and you will be better prepared than many when software support starts flowing.

Having vista installed on the computer when you buy it solves some of the problems. The trouble right now is that many peripherals such as printers and so forth don't work on it yet and some softeware doesn't either. As an OS it is perfectly fine and has some nice features to it. Look at it this way, Vista is here to stay, and everyone will have to get used to it eventually. If you get it now you will just have more time to adjust than the people who are waiting.

No, quite simply it is not. However, it does depend on the laptop you wish to buy. I bought a laptop last thanksgiving without Vista but have Vista on a desktop bought the year before that. The desktop is much better. It does not matter if it has had another OS on it, but the hardware does matter. If you buy a decent laptop Vista should work fine. Works best with one of the newer Intel/AMD processors but the manufacturers aren't going to try to sell you junk. Good luck!

It's not that it is bad it is just difficult you use right now. A lot of programs don't work with vista right now and it will be a while before all the bugs are worked out of the system and stuff. Vista in my opinion was a waste of time, if you download music, tv shows, or anything like that from limewire or ares, or any bittorrent site, you may not be able to use it because vista comes with a DRM task logger which may prevent you from using it.

Vista isn't bad, just a little different and it's the ludites that are giving it a bad name. The same happens with every new release. Having said that I wont be using it on my main machines for another 6 months, this will give the manufacturers of peripherals a chance to catch up. It will also give MS a chance to fix the worst of the bugs not found in beta testing.

My son just purchased a laptop with vista, he has been having alot of problems with it. First when he started using it it was set up in spanish format, after he figured out how to fix that he couldnt pull up stuff he needed to work on for school, almost like he had a security on it. He couldnt figure out so he had to use my lap top (no Vista!!).
I havent heard much good about it, but I have only talked to a couple of people.

Vista is a good OS. I found a couple of glitches, but as I am sure you read throughout the internet. It is a new OS and it is expected. There are too many cool things about it that weigh out the small glitches.

I even have Vista that got here with a sparkling laptop and that i want XP back so undesirable. extremely, you do not probable see a distinction different than annoying stuff. every time you attempt to do something its "Cancel or enable?" and that i've got problems with utility on it. to not point out all the stuff that makes you could desire to have plenty swifter of a working laptop or laptop, pointless. this is merely my opinion although. Its all on what you utilize your laptop for. bypass to a ideal purchase or different laptop shop and play with a working laptop or laptop and inspect Vista.

No, not at all. We got the same negative gossip about XP when it first hit the scene, now everyone swears by it. In time Vista will get the same praise that XP has gotten, mark my words.

My boyfriend does that stuff for work and he says it's crap all the way around. I bought my lap top recently and it came with a free vista upgrade but we decided against it.
