It's a 98 jeep cherokee lorado edition. New to me, only had it for about 3 months. Does it at random times.

I have had the same problems (Not with a jeep) but it was the Main Power Relay or the Starter is about to go out.

For the guy below me: The reason I stated the Relay is because thats a $5 fix that he can do himself without using any tools and if it does fix his problem, he will be very happy he didnt even have to get dirty. Always check your fuse box and relays before anything else, the problem might be right under your nose.

It could also be the ignition module. It could be a relay, but that's a lot less likely than the cranky ignition module.
